Hagen's personal review of the Omega Aqua Terra 8500 Midsize (38.5mm) Blue Dial, affectionately known as the "AT Skyfall," offers a compelling argument for its versatility and perfect sizing. His detailed wrist shots and reflections on its wearability provide invaluable insights for collectors considering this iconic reference, highlighting its enduring appeal beyond its cinematic association.

From the time I first saw this one at the Boutique in November last year, I knew it had to be my next watch. Subsequently, it appeared in "Skyfall", and is also now known affectionately as the "AT Skyfall". I must admit, the fact that it is associated with the movie does add a touch of glamour and uniqueness, at least in my mind. Nevertheless, on it's own merits, one of the most perfect mens watches IMO.

Perhaps due to my age, I do like to feel as though I have a sense of occasion when I choose what to wear at all times. To me, it's not only a fun part of life, but it's very much a part of who I am. There is absolutely no occasion that I can think of, where this watch would be inappropriate.

I tried, in my amateur way, to get pics of the watch at various angles on my 7.5in wrist, which is considered an average size. Hopefully, this will give anyone who is considering the model and size, a better idea of it's appearance on the wrist. I love the size, and the bit of heft that it has, and even the thickness which gives it a presence. I imagine that some consider it too thick, and I have read comments that the smaller case/thickness ratio can cause it to feel top-heavy. Not so in my case. I also love the butterfly clasp, both in looks and comfort.  I feel that, to a certain extent, the "wings" of the clasp hidden beneath the bracelet also give some stability on the wrist.

A beautiful watch, not only because of the dial, but due to all of the other attributes including the 8500 movement, which make it a mechanical masterpiece. I love the fact that the hour hand can be set separately, and am more than happy to give up the rapid set date function for that feature.

Here are some photos, starting with various wrist shots:

One of the modern Seamaster that I am truly attracted to as well. Suits your wrist perfect and wears almost like a 40mm. That dial .... Mesmerizing ! Thanks for the wonderful photos.

Yes, the size is deceiving. Of course, in photos, the watch always looks a little bigger on the wrist than it really is. I find that different style watches can look so different on the wrist. The one that comes to mind is the Planet Ocean. I actually find the 42mm size looks about the same as my AT on my wrist. When I go to the large 45.5mm size, I find it looks a lot better. And that is a big watch. And I usually go for smaller size watches if I can. Cheers, Carl

...on this dial is sublime. I've tried it on and I liked the depth of the blue and how it looks almost a glossy black at some angles. A good choice and at the perfect size of the AT's, IMO. I think the 38.5 is just right for this watch. Congratulations on this good choice! Richard
