DDM's acquisition of a Patek Philippe Calatrava, his first from the esteemed manufacture, offers a compelling look into the initial ownership experience of a luxury timepiece. His decision to service and lightly polish the watch immediately, despite community debate, highlights a personal approach to integrating a pre-owned watch into one's collection. This post captures the unique blend of excitement and considered care that defines the journey of a new Patek Philippe owner.

My first Patek, bought a couple of months ago and dropped off for a service immediately. Collected today from London fresh from the full service. Sadly they’re waiting for the new strap so excuse the tatty affair spoiling the photos. I posted previously canvassing opinions on a polish too. Although the consensus was “no”, this watch is new to me, and if it’s going to get war wounds I’d rather they were mine. It was in good condition so only required the most delicate of retouching.
I know compared to many of the exquisite pieces I see here this is very modest, but as my first PP, it’s very special to me. I love the lines of this watch. It has a more modern feel in P variant I think. It feels very substantial on the wrist, which I love. I’m thrilled..!!!
And thanks to those who’ve shared advice from my first post when I was contemplating a purchase onwards. Much appreciated!!

And I agree with you on the modern look of the watch--very nice. Cheers, John
