In this insightful article, enjoythemusic delves into the highly anticipated MB&F M.A.D.1 RED lottery, offering a detailed look at its unique design and the brand's philosophy of creating accessible horological machines. The author provides critical information on how to participate in the limited-time lottery, making this a valuable resource for collectors interested in acquiring this distinctive timepiece directly from MB&F.

MB&F M.A.D.1 Red Lottery

This just in...

For the past 16 years, MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser has been creating other-worldly timekeeping machines - but Max has also been playing with a side project for a while now: creating a more accessible machine, under another label, but always with the crazy MB&F touch. The result: “M.A.D.1”.

The M.A.D.1's fully visible triple-blade, titanium and tungsten rotor winds one of the rare automatic movements with unidirectional winding (essential for an easy, high-speed rotation), the reliable Miyota 821A, flipped upside-down – a nod to MB&F's HM3 and HM8. Time is displayed laterally thanks to revolving hour and minute cylinders, engraved and boosted with Super-LumiNova.

The M.A.D.1 RED is priced at CHF 2900 excluding tax. Interested in purchasing one? Pieces will be allocated thanks to a lottery open to everyone from March 22nd to April 5th. On April 6th, we will proceed with a random draw, and let you know whether the draw has been favourable to you – in which case we’ll ask you to place your order. Deliveries are planned between September and December 2022.

Lottery tickets and the M.A.D.1 RED are limited to a maximum of one per person. Worldwide shipping is offered free of charge. Local customs duties and other taxes applicable in the country of delivery are borne by the buyer.

Wasn’t it Lexus who several years ago launched a new sports car in limited numbers and had their buyers sign a clause that they wouldn’t flip the vehicle for a certain length of time? They knew the car would immediately have a higher value than the sales price and they wanted the vehicles to go to true Lexus aficionados and not someone looking to make a quick buck. I feel MB&F needs to do something similar here, otherwise right after delivery you’ll see too many of these up on Chrono24 for $20K

What if 3000 people sign up for lottery and they decide to make 3000?

As data points, in a recent interview with WatchBox, Max shared that MB&F made 275 watches in 2021. They took orders for 400, so that gives you a sense of how demand is outstripping supply. They are now considering closing their order books and not taking any more deposits. On top of this, Max shared they made 450 of the original blue MAD watch. They have been inundated with thousands of requests for how to get one and they were considering making a couple hundred more for the general public. So

...would never flip. Besides being an amazing timepiece imho, it was a bit of an honor to be offered the blue. No blue here so my feelings resonate with yours. Broadly-speaking, it's just cRaZy now. So much newly-released currency from many central banks are chasing too few goods. Would say more, yet deeply diving into Financials is not WPS content.

What if it is 200, or 20,000,000? Am not really a fan of hypotheticals. (Rhetorical) What if the Earth moves a mere 0.2% closer to the Sun? Will SPF 50 be enough?

Not sure the purpose to drive hype when that already exists here. Me, I'll watch from the sidelines. To me an independent doing the hype train is the same as PP with nauitlus. It looks like a hockey puck on a strap. Novel idea however. -kevin
