In a world often dominated by haute horlogerie, RDSChicago's post offers a refreshing perspective on finding profound horological enjoyment in more accessible timepieces. His discovery of a vintage-inspired Certina, boasting an impressive 80-hour power reserve, challenges the notion that value is solely tied to price. This article explores the community's response to his assertion that a great watch is simply a great watch, regardless of its cost.

That you can find beauty and enjoyment from modestly priced watches. Picked up this vintage-looking Certina on a whim and can’t get over how nice it is, with an 80 hour power reserve to boot! I would usually say it’s a very nice watch, with the caveat “for the price,” but have decided it’s a great watch, period!

It’s not about what other people find valuable or desirable. There are so many gems out there. This is spectacular and good for you!! Can I ask how much it set you back and where you found it. The story. Also I’d change the strap. Go with a black tropical or brown. The ones Analog shift sell are soft. (I own a ton of different ones from different places and they can be quite stiff)

I think what really gives it such a strong vintage vibe is that beautiful bezel and as you say that is a lot of watch for the money. Marc

Chronograph in 1968 was a Croton made by Nivada Grenchen. It went into salt water (as prescribed by Beach Patrol) twice a day for 3 summers. Someone 'borrowed' it from my gym locker in 1971.

And it’s my first strap with quick release. Love that feature.

Certina have done a great job in the last few years with their heritage inspired watches. That's a really nice one. I'm a big fan of their vintage DS-1s, and collect them. For whatever reason, I feel that Certina are vastly overlooked. Their vintage watches are exceptional value... and that goes for their modern watches, like your, too. Enjoy! (I'm going to be looking for one of these now...so thanks!)
