Mahesh introduces the Laurent Ferrier Tourbillon Grand Sport, a new release featuring a tourbillon with a double balance in a 44mm steel case on a rubber strap. He invites the community to discuss this departure from Laurent Ferrier's classic 'Galet' design cues, noting his mixed feelings about its sportier aesthetic.

I took liberty to post the info from the LF newsletter, Moderators - if this shouldn't be published directly please feel free to hold the post...

Tourbillon opposite double balance on 44 mm steel case on rubber stap - Brown dial with Orange Superluminova...

imho the case seems to be consistent to the 'Galet' design cues but also feels a little different to what LF has done earlier - kind of mixed feeling.

what do you think....

Best,
mahesh.,

While I understand that it’s a “Sports “ watch , I can’t get over the fact that it has a Tourbillon movement... The case is nice , with some mixed lines (Piaget, Journe Octa ), the movement has a lot going for it but not paired with a watch on rubber strap . The dial works as well ... I can even work with the 44mm size . Or maybe I’m just to conservative ???

My take is that they are trying to make a big hit luxury sport watch “a la” Gerald Genta. The case has some resemblance to the Nautilus from the back side. Since I like a lot the Nautilus/Royal Oak/Overseas, I tend to like it. Thanks for sharing. René

With the Galet Square. Laurent Ferrier has already shown the ability to run out sporty dial variants with successful results. This is a step back. This Grand Sport case feels less distinct than other Laurent Ferrier cases, borrowing elements from the cases of the Nautilus, Piaget Polo S (itself derivative), the Girard Perregaux Laureato, etc. It is bigger and it is sportier than anything we've seen from Laurent Ferrier, but I'll match the honesty of the model name in saying that I don't think it

But I think i'm at the point where analytically i'm against 1972 and onward "sports lux" (heretical i know) While rolex are sports lux in an objective, broader sense, they at least pay homage to real sports watches and they still deliver the (most) robust mechanical movements. IWC, Omega as well have movements that can take a relative beating. Especially an ultra thin or delicate or tourb or perpetual calendar sports watch - in generally it's too much an "image" thing - just my 2 cents!
