TheWindingStem shares his journey into the world of A. Lange & Söhne, detailing his rapid acquisition of multiple pieces and his exceptional experiences with the brand's customer service. His account of attending SIHH 2018 offers a unique, personal perspective on the event, highlighting the brand's dedication to collectors and the horological marvels unveiled.

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.
This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.
The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.
I like the Saxonia thin with the blue dial the best especially since each dial is slightly different from the other. My other favourite would be the revamped 1815 chronograph! And lucky you finally being treated like the VVIP you are!
I’m not even remotely a VVIP- just a Lange loyalist! And when I saw the new Saxonia Thin I immediately thought of you. This is right up your alley! Sorry we couldn’t meet up! But I should be in London around March if you’re available.
I need to put this 39mm gem on my wrist to see what it looks like. Lovely, lovely dial though. Unfortunately I am only in London until 12 Feb and will be back here in May to view the Patek novelties from Basel this year. Ooops, must not utter Patek in the Lange forum!
The Double Split has for years been my "Hyper-Grail." It's good to know that when I make it to the DS, I'll have a supportive brand behind me.
I’d purchase any Lange blindfolded knowing they’re fully supportive and stand behind every timepiece they craft. Can’t wait till you eventually get your hands on the double split one day!
I'd followed your threads re the initial purchase, the follow on purchase and of course the interactions with the NYC Boutique and others at Lange. What an eventful several months and then SIHH to top it off. Wow.
