Christianch's decade-long journey with his A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Ref. 101.021 offers a unique perspective on long-term ownership and the emotional connection collectors form with their timepieces. His decision to re-acquire a watch he had previously traded highlights the enduring appeal and iconic status of this particular reference within the horological community. This article explores the nuances of owning a Lange 1 over time, drawing insights from christianch's experience and the community's reflections.

Hey everyone,

It’s hard to believe, but my A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 (Ref. 101.021) has been with me for 10 years now. Well, almost—it’s been quite the journey with this watch!

Two years ago, I decided to trade it in with a local AD of other brands as I wasn’t wearing it much. But here’s the twist: the watch didn’t sell, and when I saw it sitting there, I couldn’t resist. I re-bought it, and honestly, I’m so glad I did. It reminded me how special the Lange 1 is and why I fell in love with it in the first place.

The craftsmanship, the iconic asymmetrical design, and the overall feel of this watch are timeless. I didn’t originally get it in Dresden, but visiting the city back in 2015 made owning this piece feel even more meaningful.

Sharing a few photos from throughout the years, including ones from then and now. It’s incredible how well this watch has aged and how it still brings so much joy every time I wind it or put it on.

Cheers,

Christian

About the A. Lange and Söhne Lange 1 18kt Yellow Gold Ref. 101.021

The A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 reference 101.021 is a foundational model within the brand's contemporary history, representing one of the original four watches introduced in 1994 that marked the revival of A. Lange & Söhne. This specific reference, with its yellow gold case and champagne dial, exemplifies the distinctive design language of the Lange 1, characterized by its off-center dial layout, patented outsize date, and power reserve indicator. It is a manually wound timepiece that quickly established itself as a cornerstone of high-end German watchmaking.

The watch features an 18kt yellow gold case measuring 38.5mm in diameter and 10mm in thickness. It is equipped with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal on both the front and the display case back, showcasing the meticulously finished L901.0 manual wind caliber. This movement provides a substantial power reserve of 72 hours, a practical feature for a manually wound watch. The solid yellow gold case is complemented by a fixed bezel and a champagne-colored dial.

This reference appeals to collectors who appreciate the historical significance of the original Lange 1 series and the brand's commitment to traditional Saxon watchmaking. Its classic material and dial combination make it a versatile choice, while the unique dial architecture ensures its distinct identity. The 101.021 is a key piece for understanding the aesthetic and mechanical principles that define A. Lange & Söhne's modern era, offering a direct link to the brand's re-establishment.

that gave me a good price for it. Now the Lange 1 Yellow gold version is a Flagship model only and more expensive than the other ones in gold! www.alange-soehne.com 1 Back then my AD had every variation in stock the yellow gold has a very special champagne dial...look and price did it for me!
