Last Friday evening, The PuristSPro Moderator Team and SoCal PuristS joined Jaeger LeCoultre to view the new SIHH 2014 novelties and watch collection.  This event was hosted by our friends at the Jaeger LeCoultre Beverly Hills Boutique and we were all warmly welcomed by the wonderful boutique staff.  It was great to see Philippe Bonay and Yves Melan again!

The boutique was filled with familiar faces and some new guests that were all excited to handle the JLC watches.

Tasty hors d'oeuvres were served by efficient catering staff making their way in the intimate space of the boutique:

I spent quite a bit of time with Mr. Jean-Luc F. of JLC.  He showed me several watches starting with the Master Compressor collection including Extreme Lab 2 (red gold and titanium versions), and the new Master Compressor Chronograph Ceramic.

The Master Compressor Chronograph Ceramic is limited to 500 pieces.  Although it has a 46mm ceramic case it felt a little smaller on the wrist probably due to the black colored ceramic.  It fit well on my small wrist.  The compression key crown allows the watch owner to lock the position to prevent inadvertent handling and keep water resistance.  On the dial there is a small dot under JLC logo near the 12 o'clock position for the day/night indicator.  Besides the chronograph function this watch also has a GMT function with a skeletonized GMT hour hand without lume.  Movement is the JLC cal 757 that provides a 65 hour power reserve.  I also liked the feel and texture of the trieste strap paired with a tang buckle.

The Jaeger LeCoultre Master Compressor Extreme Lab 2 was release in prior years SIHH but it is still a unique watch to handle in person.  Both the titanium and the rose gold versions were available to us.  It has a 24 hour chronograph subdial at the 9 o'clock position and a large and easy to read digital minute counter at the 12 o'clock position.  The skeletonized dial has a traditional date display at the 3 o'clock position.  What was interesting to see was the power reserve indicator that is a thin strip display along the outer top edge of the dial.  It is white colored to show full power and is red when the power is run down.  Also the crown controls three functions: winding the automatic movement, adjusting the GMT, and adjusting the hours and minutes time.  Pushing in the crown cycles through these 3 functions and small display on the dial that shows the crown functions near the inner 3 o'clock position.

The strap had an interesting double pin buckle to ensure that the watch is securely tightened on the wrist.  It was easy to use and felt similar to a regular single tang buckle.  The buckle itself has a JLC logo engraved and has mostly a brushed finish with a finely polished edge.  There is also a mechanism to make micro adjusts for the perfect fit.

If you look closely on the side of the case you can see a lever.  It's not a minute repeater mechanism, it's a sliding switch to stop the seconds when adjusting the time with the crown.

The chronograph pushers had a nice crisp feel when activating the chronograph and the rubberized texture in the center of the pusher made it easy to activate.

Of the two versions, I prefered the visual contrast of the titanium and ceramic with the red accents.  When paired with the black and red strap it really pops out and draws attention.

And a closeup of the dial with the red bridge of the crown position indicator.

In the display cases were several of the watches from the JLC Amvox collection.   The Amvox 3 Tourbillon GMT which is the first round ceramic case produced by JLC.

Along with a Amvox 7 Chronograph in titanium

Next In part 2 we will take a closer look at the Duometre Tourbillon and Duometre Unique Travel Time.

Discussion during dinner

Thanks Respo! You have sharp eyes :) We all agree with you about the watch that Jean-Luc was wearing. It was passed around the guests and we spent a quite a bit of time discussing the Tribute to Deep Sea. I've got a few more pics and videos on the way, stay tuned. Regards, ED-209
