Amanico uncovers a rare variant of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gyrotourbillon One, a platinum PVD case with an open dial, a micro-edition of only five pieces from circa 2010. This discovery expands the known lineage of this iconic complication, prompting a discussion among collectors about its unique aesthetic and technical choices.

I thought I knew all the non jeweled versions of the Jaeger Lecoultre Gyrotourbillon One. I was wrong.

You all know the first opus in platinum, limited to 75 pieces, introduced in the collection in 2004.

We know that in 2009, there were two white gold versions, one with the Clous de Paris, limited to 20 pieces, the other belonging to the Hybris Mechanica set of three watches, with the famous open dial, limited to 30 pieces.

I knew that there was a micro series of platinum PVD case, with the first generation dial. Not sure it saw the light, it was a project, at least.

The version I just discovered is this one: The platinum PVD case, with the open dial of the 2009 white gold version. Credit picture: Antiquorum.

A micro edition of 5 pieces, circa 2010:

There are some differences with the white gold open dial from 2009, with darkened parts: The time dial, the months, the days and the reserve de marche.

A quite spectacular version, I must say, but I still prefer the first " One ".

You?

Best,

Nicolas

I like the original one as well. First time I see a platinum case PVD, why would anyone do this? on a larger piece like this would it not be more suited to make the case in titanium and PVD for the black look? Stealthy for sure with the platinum however..

For a large watch to be wearable it has to be comfortable, to me at last... Is Pvd on platinum sensible?
