Jay (Eire) shares a delightful horological encounter, highlighting the unique appeal of Vacheron Constantin timepieces. His post captures the essence of collector camaraderie, showcasing two distinct Vacheron Constantin models that spark immediate interest and discussion among enthusiasts. This article delves into the details of these watches, enriched by community insights.

As some of you saw, Orahu was in town earlier this week.  We’ve missed each other a few times recently but this week we managed to grab some short time to grab a coffee, talk watches and bikes.

And yes, I had my C6 on the wrist as Orahu shared.  But for me, more interesting, was that he had two Vacheron’s with him.

His “right size” 1921 which if I do say so looks pretty good on my wrist too !!!  And the oldie Evasion World Time.

What a cool VC pair.

About the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Ref. American1921

The Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 is a distinctive reinterpretation of a cushion-shaped watch originally produced by the manufacture for the American market in the 1920s. This reference is characterized by its unique diagonal display, with the crown positioned at the 1 o'clock position and the dial rotated 45 degrees clockwise. This design was historically intended to allow drivers to read the time without removing their hands from the steering wheel, offering both a functional and aesthetically unconventional presentation within the Historiques collection.

This particular iteration of the American 1921 features a case crafted from precious metal, often rose gold, with a polished finish that highlights its cushion shape and stepped bezel. The watch is typically fitted with a manual-winding mechanical movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, providing a power reserve suitable for daily wear. The crystal protecting the dial is also sapphire, ensuring clarity and scratch resistance.

The American 1921 appeals to collectors seeking pieces with historical provenance and an unconventional design. Its distinctive orientation and vintage inspiration make it a conversation piece and a unique offering within Vacheron Constantin's contemporary lineup. Various sizes have been produced, catering to different wrist preferences while maintaining the core design principles of the original 1921 model.

Is going to be be whether I will purchase the 1921 or the Reverso Septantieme as my next watch. Mind you, I have yet to see either watch in person, mercifully with a VC boutique nearby I can at least achieve one first-hand impression fairly easily.... Thanks for the excellent wristshots, cheers, Filip

But apparently they are not that easy to see currently. I think Orahu mentioned that VC told him none were to be found in store at the moment.

Pretty sure I checked same dealer site on Tuesday after trying this one on and there were none. Maybe they are tracking my internet usage !!!

VC ref 12070( left hand) & 11032( right hand) , made for American market specially for wealthy race drivers , 45 degree displacement so they dont have to take hands off wheel to read time. Credit: Charlotte and Peter Fiell, Ultimate Collector Watches

They are two completely different watches, which is generally not a situation I find myself in. Curious to hear how you ended up there, if you ever get a chance to share.

Ideally, I'd eventually be in a position to get both, but since they're in the same price bracket, one will have to suffice foreseeably. And of course, despite their dress watch category, they couldn't be more different aesthetically speaking....
