Hi all,

Have not seen a vintage Heuer thread around these parts for quite a while. Have been into vintage Rolex for some time, and having purchased a gilt 5513, gilt 1675 and 1655, the next logical progression seemed to be getting a vintage Daytona.. Until you see what decent (or even half decent) pieces go for these days.

As such my attention turned to other vintage chronos, and have been quite taken with the vintage Heuers, especially the Carreras and Autavias. To me they are steeped in history, and are richly interconnected with motorsports racing in the 70s.

I'm sure there're some of you out there with some nice specimens, please come forward and post pictures of your beauties!

Right now I'm quite besotted with the Carrera 2447SN and the Autavia 2446. The former is elegant and timeless, a not necessarily inferior peer of the uber-hyped Daytona, while the latter is masculine and daring, reminiscent of racing heroes like Jochen Rindt and Jo Siffert.

The picture of the Carrera is from OnTheDash, while the Autavia belongs to a good buddy of mine.

What's your flavour?

About the Horological Meandering Carrera Ref. 2447s

The Carrera 2447s is a notable early execution within the Carrera chronograph series, distinguished by its clean dial layout and manual-wind movement. This reference represents an important period for the model, preceding later automatic iterations and maintaining a design language focused on legibility and functional aesthetics. It is recognized for its balanced proportions and the absence of external tachymeter bezels, which contributes to its understated profile.

This particular reference features a stainless steel case, typically measuring 36mm in diameter. It is powered by a manual-wind Valjoux 72 caliber, a robust and widely respected chronograph movement of its era, providing a power reserve of approximately 46 hours. The watch is fitted with an acrylic crystal, common for timepieces of this period, and features a silver dial with applied hour markers.

For collectors, the 2447s holds appeal as an early, pure expression of the Carrera design. Its manual-wind Valjoux 72 movement is a significant draw, appreciated for its mechanical integrity. The reference is often sought after by those who value the foundational designs of vintage chronographs, offering a distinct alternative to more complex or later-period models within the brand's catalog.

The very rare Skipper: A topissime Solunar would make my day, too: As well as this Autavia... Alas, none of these are mine... For the moment. Best, Nicolas

It's nice to see a Heuer thread, and that's my Carrera 2447 NS, at the top of the chain. Here are some Heuers that came my way over the Summer of 2015. Jeff
