Andrew H (219) reports from Baselworld 2009, showcasing Greubel Forsey's impressive output of three new pieces and a new invention, defying economic trends. His post highlights the brand's unwavering commitment to invention, innovation, and experimentation, featuring detailed insights into their latest horological marvels. This article offers a rare glimpse into the creative process and new directions of one of independent watchmaking's most revered names.
The first two invention pieces revolved around the 30 degree double tourbillon, but Invention piece number 3 uses the 24 Second Incline movement as the starting point. On the dial side of the watch was the same readout using coloured indicators coupled to rings; the tourbillon was now bridged back and front. At the back of the watch was the same personal message to the owner of the watch from Greubel Forsey, but the front contains a message for all to see that describes… The dial side was a syst
The third new piece this year was the debut of a new series for Greubel Forsey: the Technique series. The idea behind this new development is to build the watch, not in a skeleton form, but in a form that allows the complete working of the mechanism to be viewed and examined. It becomes possible to trace the workings from the winding barrels (newly developed for this model) to the escapement, and to the hands. The three-dimensional architecture and design of the piece is stunning and with the di
Finally, although not ‘officially’ presented at Basel, a sixth invention was on display. This time, not a tourbillon, but two escapement wheels, at an angle rotating against each other, and named as ‘Double Balancier a Differential’. It is not considered a resonance movement, but whether the two balance wheels, at off-setting angles, can average out the positional errors from the watch in much the same way as the double tourbillon does. This movement has only just started its testing through the

It's probably my favorite from the entire show. They fixed everything I didn't like about the original double tourb. Amazing! Any wristshots? Thanks Andrew!
