When the 9S86 (HiBeat GMT) was released, the Grand Seiko SBGJ005 had impressed with its green dial with its special texture and its rotor treated by anodic oxidation.
The 005 was the most beautiful in the SBGJ001 / 003/005 serie.
It was awarded at  2014 edition of the GPHG, and brand collectors demand it.
Limited Edition, only 600 pieces, so it is rather rare and has generated many frustrations.

The Morioka factory released the SBGJ021 in 2016, probably for those who did not have the chance to acquire a 005.

You all know that the inspiration of many GS L.E. dials comes from the observation of nature.
The green dial of the 005 is an evocation of the foliage of the trees that are on the flanks of Mount Iwate in summer.
The dial of the 021 finds its inspiration in the same place, but in autumn.
I was in Morioka last fall, and I was quite surprised by the color of the trees on the road to SII.

The day after, when I saw SBGJ021 for the first time at Seiko Premium Boutique, I understood where this very special color came from

The 021 shares the same technical parts with 005: caliber, case, bracelet, hour markers, polished and brushed dauphine hands.
It differs from the 005 by its dial and its rotor.
So I'm not going to make a detailed review of the 021.
But the dial of the 021 is so impressive that I took many pictures in different lighting conditions.
This dial is so stunning, and it's color variations areso fascinating that and I just want to share some pictures with you Seikoholics.
I guess this could be a good place to do so smile

021 vs 005

In the darkness the color tone is even more interesting ...

Summer vs Autumn

I think SBGJ001 is inspired by Winter ...

I hope there will be special dial dedicated to Spring.
Then, we will have the complete 4 seasons interpretation by Shizuki-Ishi Watch Studio smile

Great photos, and a lovely pair of GS limited edition hi-beat gmt! This is not to dismiss the quality of the 005 and 021 at all, but I think the 003 more than hold its own against the other 2. All 3 watches essentially have the same dial pattern and finish, except the difference in colour. Using seasonal themes as inspiration is no doubt a clever idea. I picked the black dial however because it serves as the best background to show off the razor sharp hands, which I consider to be a GS signature

003 is a nice GS but ... it's not in the same league as 005 and 021, IMHO This texture has been already used on a black dial, for SBGH005, while 005 and 021 are unique. The color variation is much more wider on both green and red dials. Concerning the background to show the razor sharp hands, have a look below ... Just my two cents ;-)

I do see your point on the black dial being used in the SBGH005 first. By the same logic, are the dials on 005 and 021 truly original? New colours-sure; but it's the same pattern. I had multiple opportunities to pick up a 005 and I passed, never considered the 021. Again, this is not to say they aren't very nice watches (they are), I'm only trying to make a case on why I'm very pleased with my 003. We can agree to disagree on which colour serves as a better background to the hands, I still prefe
