The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, or Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix, is held annually to reward the best timepieces and watchmakers. Entries are accepted from all watch brands, in a number of categories, with the most exceptional timepieces competing for the highly coveted “Aiguille d’Or.” From the hundreds of watches submitted for the initial entries, the pre-selection has narrowed the choices down to 70 of the most notable timepieces for this year. Over the next few weeks, these watches will go on various exhibitions around the world, giving collectors and watchmaking enthusiasts a unique opportunity to see the industry’s shining stars.
Here are some quick & fuzzy pics. of the event last night. The timepieces will be displayed at watch & jewellery shop at the IFC mall until the 13th. of this month. Pls. PM me if you wish to know the exact location.

I'm afraid I wasn't able to take shots of all the watches that were on display and the ones that I did take unfortunately didn't turn out too well. Hopefully, the exhibition will arrive at a venue near you.
Cheers
Fernando
I must say that I am always dubitative with these Grands Prix... Best, Nicolas
...what caught your eye the most amongst the entries? Thanks for documenting the event! Cheers, Daos
But according to the brochure, the jury is nominated annually by the foundation board and are supposedly impartial and independant. The jury consists of experts, collectors, journalists and other watchmaking professionals that have no direct link with the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix Foundation or with the competing brands. They are obliged to respect the rules and are sworn to the strictest confidentiality, which guarantees their independence. :) Best fernando
extravagant pieces Daos but there were a few that catered to mere mortals which I liked. Very difficult to digest it all in a short period but I would say there's something for everybody in the diversified selection. Wouldn't want to make any calls or predictions for fear of influencing the judging btw. :) :) Glad to know one of our very own chaps from HK (a friend) is on the jury list this year. cheers fernando
and for us to see some very nice timepieces again, everyone finds his interest :P Do you know what De Bethune watch was presented? I see that you made a picture of Christophe Claret's watch, a great watchmaker that we don't hear much about. Thanks for the share Fernando. Cheers, Mark
so they are automatically out of the competition this year. Their founder or CEO is subsequently invited to sit on the jury the following year. In this case co-founder Denis Flageollet is in the hot seat for 2012. :) cheers fernando
