Friends,

one of my latest additions is the Vintage 45 XXL with small seconds, Ref 25880.

I have always been averse to the XXL case assuming it is really too big. And some versions like the XXL Chronograph are indeed too big for me. However, Ref 2588 I had the pleasure to try on a few times, first with the large date / moonphase (25882) and later the small seconds version 25880.

To my surprise, the curvature of the case, it's relatively thinness and lightness makes this not only comfortable on the wrist, but also looking very fitting.

I would have loved to take the blue sapphire dial with large date / moonphase or the Le Corbusier concrete dial, but they were just out of reach. The small seconds version can be had with either blue, grey or silver dial.

I ended up getting for the silver dial as it is more versatile and the vertical brushing on the dial really comes out. Because I also liked the blue dial very much, I have at least ordered a blue strap, which I think will make the silver dial look even better. Will report back once I received the strap.

Best,

CC

About the Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Ref. 25882

The Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 reference 25882 is a notable example within the Vintage 1945 collection, distinguished by its rectangular case design and a dial color that offers a distinct aesthetic compared to more common dial presentations. This reference typically features a small seconds sub-dial, contributing to its balanced and classic dress watch appeal. It represents a contemporary interpretation of historical Girard-Perregaux designs from the mid-20th century, particularly those influenced by Art Deco sensibilities. The model is positioned as a refined option for collectors seeking a dress watch with a strong vintage character.

This specific reference is housed in a stainless steel case, reflecting a practical yet sophisticated material choice for a dress watch. The case dimensions are 36mm by 37mm, providing a substantial presence on the wrist while maintaining wearability. It is equipped with an automatic movement, ensuring convenience for daily wear. The watch features a sapphire crystal, known for its scratch resistance, protecting the dial. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 46 hours.

The Vintage 1945 collection, and this reference in particular, appeals to collectors who appreciate historical design cues reinterpreted with modern manufacturing standards. Its blue dial variant offers an alternative to traditional silver or black dials, making it a distinctive choice for those seeking a dress watch with a subtle pop of color. The small seconds complication adds a traditional touch, aligning with the watch's overall vintage inspiration and contributing to its enduring appeal within the Girard-Perregaux catalog.

Both high in my wish list. But this one is very nice, too. Agree with you on the XXL case. At first sight ( and maybe a bit after   it looks really big. But you get used to it. Best, nicolas

For instance, from my side, I fell in love of the AP Millenary 4101 in steel and I bought one even if I knew that it was too big for my wrist (42x47mm). Big mistake finally :-( I would like to see AP offer a smaller size such as (40x45mm or 39x44mm). I would be very happy to buy a new one ;-) Best wishes Alkiro

Have tried the sapphire dial one and it was not too big for me, so I understand what you are saying - it feels very comfortable on the wrist in spite of the size. Really like the vertical brushing on the dial - a lovely detail! And the red 60 seconds marker Hope you will thoroughly enjoy it and looking forward to seeing it with the blue strap, too!

My wrist is not very big and I found the time-only or the blue sapphire comfortable in terms of size. It is so curved and has very short lugs that nothing sticks out. Now there is one small detail that may be the culprit. I removed the deployment buckle and changed it for a standard 19mm GP pin buckle. A whole different world in terms of comfort! CC

A real gem. I am looking forward to a picture of this watch with a blue strap. Congratulations!
