In a significant piece of horological detective work, WatchProSite contributor this_hobby_of_hours has definitively debunked a long-standing myth surrounding the origins of the Girard Perregaux Laureato. Through direct communication with Adolfo Natalini's business partner, Fabrizio, this_hobby_of_hours confirms that Natalini was not the designer of the original 1975 Laureato, urging the community to correct this misinformation wherever it appears. This revelation sheds new light on the Laureato's history and reignites the quest to identify its true creator.

Adolfo Natalini did NOT design the orginal Laureato in 1975.

GP knows who the designer is but they will only say it was an in-house designer and they will not release his name.

After I spoke with Fabrizio (his business partner for over 30 years) last week, I emailed him to be sure there was no misunderstanding.

His response is clear. See the screenshot of his email back to me today.

So now you know too. 🍏

It’s public information on their website. And it’s part of the proof.

One step settled at least. I knew it was not Adolfo and then I thought, why not just ask his business partner. ☺️

The designer may be in his 70’s now as the laureato is soon to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025. At least now we can say concretely who the designer was NOT. 😄

And honestly, and sorry, the original design was not such a great shot designwise…

The “secret” is that GP won’t reveal the name. That’s why you have to say “probably” this and “probably” that. We know the names of many other designers from that era but not the Laureato. It’s been withheld even though many folks would like to know. It many not interest you, but it does interest me and perhaps some other laureato fans. Janitor, in-house designer or someone from the Graef family … it’s all good. Would just be great to get a name. Not sure what you mean by “luxurious” but GP was

But perhaps folks from the press need to ask this question point-blank during an interview with GP management. Tim Mosso in the house … 😄👋 Either way, at least we know who the designer was NOT. For the longest time, folks assumed it was Adolfo and perhaps this is why the questions never came up. And perhaps, more clues will arise from others on the name of the actual designer. I have some feelers out there and some leads are coming up. BTW, sorry to ask so bluntly, but is Peter CDE still alive?
