Nicolas (amanico) offers WatchProSite readers an exclusive first look at the Girard Perregaux Deep Diver 2025, a modern reinterpretation of the iconic Ref. 9108. His detailed presentation, complete with comparative imagery of both the original and the new model, sets the stage for a critical community discussion on design evolution, brand collaborations, and market positioning. This article explores why the Deep Diver 2025 matters to collectors, especially concerning its ambitious pricing and the brand's strategic direction.

The Girard Perregaux Deep Divers reference 9108 is a notable example from the brand's mid-century sports watch offerings. This particular reference is recognized for its robust construction and functional design, characteristic of watches intended for active use during its era. It represents a specific period in the brand's development of water-resistant timepieces, distinct from later iterations.
The watch typically features a stainless steel case, housing an automatic movement. The case diameter is generally in the range of 40mm, providing a substantial presence on the wrist. The crystal protecting the dial is commonly acrylic, consistent with watches of this period, chosen for its durability and resistance to shattering under impact. The movement provides a reliable power reserve suitable for daily wear.
This reference appeals to collectors interested in vintage sports watches and the historical development of water-resistant designs. It offers a glimpse into Girard Perregaux's approach to tool watches before the widespread adoption of modern diving watch standards. The 9108 is appreciated for its authentic vintage aesthetic and its place within the brand's heritage of functional timekeeping instruments.
Then I saw the price and nearly fell off my chair π€
But I still don't know if anyone beats Doxa for this kind of thing (and that's before we start talking price)
Not for me. Nor the Bamford. I do like the aesthetic.
But I bet this case shape, at this size, in titanium will wear very nicely
Thanks for sharing Nico. The price is not a surprise to me. Look at what happens to GP prices in the secondary market after itβs been out for a year or two. Will be available for 40-50% off MSRP in the future. This is the same thing that happened to Laureato pricing in the secondary market. Especially when they start introducing more iterations of this same model.14 mm case thickness is a big miss for me. Hope the Laureato 50th will be more compelling.
I got the email! There is desirable retrograde but this is not it! I cannot see this diver being a success for G-P, never mind the the high asking price. I think G-P has lost its way with this one. My 2 pence worth. Clive
