The “best” Laureato IMHO and the original gangster for generation 5. I don’t use the term “best” often.

The limited edition anniversary 225.

41 mm
10.1 mm (same as the 38 mm) (it wears flat and hugs the wrist).

Lug-to-lug 47.1 mm
Ref: 81000

Presented at SIHH in 2016 for the GP 225th anniversary.

Designed by Stefano Macaluso, it is the middle ground between the 38 mm and the 42 mm. It’s the most versatile size and holds tremendous heritage. Try to search for the 42 mm and you will see tons. Try to search for the 38 mm and you will mostly see the copper dial.

If you plan to only get/have one laureato in your collection, get this one.

The Silver dial is just as beautiful. ❤️

Two screen shots from chrono24 attached. In Singapore dollars so search yourself in your own currency.

Blue dials getting scarce. Silver dials will get there too.

Folks ask me for advice often … well, get this one. Simple. ☺️ No brainer. Seriously.

PS

Use the Search 🔍 for “81000”. I have written extensively about it and what the differences are from the 42 mm.

About the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Ref. 81000

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato reference 81000 is a notable iteration within the Laureato collection, distinguished by its refined proportions and classic design elements. This reference maintains the core aesthetic of the Laureato line, characterized by its integrated bracelet and a blend of polished and brushed finishes. It represents a period where the Laureato continued to evolve while retaining its foundational identity as a versatile sports watch. The dial features a "Clous de Paris" pattern, providing a subtle texture and play of light. Applied indices with tritium lume and a date window at 3 o'clock complete the dial layout. The model name "Laureato" is engraved on the case back, rather than printed on the dial.

The watch is housed in a 36mm case, a size that offers a balanced presence on the wrist. The case design incorporates the signature octagonal bezel, which is polished, contrasting with the brushed surfaces of the case and integrated bracelet. The movement is an automatic caliber, providing reliable timekeeping and a date function. The crystal protecting the dial is sapphire, known for its scratch resistance. The construction ensures a degree of water resistance suitable for daily wear.

This reference appeals to collectors who appreciate the historical context of the Laureato and prefer watches with more traditional dimensions. Its design, with the integrated bracelet and textured dial, positions it as a sophisticated option within the category of bracelet-equipped sports watches. The subtle blue-grey dial color further enhances its appeal, offering a distinctive look that can shift under different lighting conditions. The presence of tritium lume on the indices and hands is a detail often sought by collectors interested in vintage and neo-vintage pieces.

1) Case diameter means very little to how a watch wears. But yes, 1 mm does make a difference. 2) Far more importantly is Lug-to-Lug and thickness. 41 mm Thickness - 10.1 mm Lug to lug - 47.1 mm 42 mm (Blue date wheel) Thickness - 11 mm Lug to lug - 49.1 mm Here you see the larger absolute differences. 3) Not that you brought this up, but I'll add.... in all hobbies of collecting, rarity and provenance is massive. Baseball cards or cars for example. This is even more so with watch collecting (th

It's a real shame, but I just can't get over this white date window. For me it's a foreign object on this beautiful blue dial. Why, why?

Have you tried on both the 38 mm and 41 mm? Curious to know why you don’t care about rarity … 🤔 Any weight given to provenance?

First it all thank you for the compliment 🤝 The white date window is the same as the polished bezel. It’s a nod of respect to the original laureato. Hypothetically, if you had the option to buy the royal oak 5402 (39 mm) or a current production (and common” AP 15500 41 mm) both at the same price. Which would your choice be?
