Blomman Mr Blue initiates a community competition to coin a nickname for a distinctive Girard-Perregaux reference 9034 dial, characterized by its black, white, and red square pattern. This engaging thread invites collectors to contribute creative names, building on established monikers like "Dot dial" and "Flag dial" for other variants. The discussion highlights the community's passion for unique watch aesthetics and the fun of collaborative naming.

Friends,

Not long ago I presented my Girard-Perregaux “Black, White and Red” reference 9034 for you here in the forum.

Now, the question that came up is what should we call this dial version of the 9034?

Since before we have the “Dot dial” and the “Flag dial”…

The "Dot dial".

Proposals from the original post are:

CrownComfort: “Lego dial”.

Chippytime: “Patch dial”.

KMII: “Polka square dial”.

Alkiro1: “Dice dial”.

Alkiro1: “Cube dial”.

Since it is election time, let’s make this a competition and vote!

The one entering the name that gets chosen here will win a fine Girard-Perregaux prize!

Also, one of the members voting on the winning name will win an equally fine Girard-Perregaux prize!

(Sorry the prize is not a watch, but some goodies from the brand)

Rules:

You are allowed to enter as many name proposals as you which, but only vote once.

If you already voted, but later on finds a name that you think is better, you are allowed to retract your vote by replying to your original vote with a retraction and put a new vote on the new name.

I will not vote, but I will be judge, jury and executor in this competition.

Saturday the 12 th of November at 12:00 (Swedish time) the competition closes.

I will count the votes and announce the winning name!

The winners will receive a PM with request for shipping address for the prizes.

So, please enter your name and/or vote for your favourite name now!

Best

About the Girard-Perregaux GP Vintage Ref. 9034

The Girard-Perregaux Vintage reference 9034 is a notable model within the brand's mid-century offerings, recognized for its diverse dial configurations. Produced over nearly a decade, this reference showcases Girard-Perregaux's design versatility during a period of significant stylistic evolution in watchmaking. It represents a segment of the brand's production that catered to varied aesthetic preferences while maintaining a consistent underlying mechanical platform.

This reference features a 34.5 mm steel case, a common dimension for watches of its era, providing a balanced presence on the wrist. The watch is powered by the Caliber GP12.3, an automatic movement based on the AS 1640 ébauche, indicating a robust and widely utilized architecture. The use of a steel case and a reliable automatic movement positioned the 9034 as a durable and practical timepiece for daily wear.

For collectors, the 9034 is particularly interesting due to its wide array of dial variations, including the "moon dot" (also known as "Playboy"), gold-plated, "psychedelic," and "Roulette" or "Flag" designs. This variety makes individual examples distinct and offers collectors opportunities to pursue specific aesthetic preferences within a single reference number. Its production span from 1967 to 1976 further highlights its enduring appeal and adaptability during that period.
