In this insightful post, 'this_hobby_of_hours' introduces the exceptionally rare Girard-Perregaux Reference 7710, a neo-vintage chronograph from 1993. He delves into its brief production run and unique characteristics, offering a glimpse into a lesser-known chapter of GP's history under the Macaluso family ownership. His detailed presentation highlights why this particular reference, despite its small 34mm case, holds significant appeal for collectors.

Friends,

Sharing a GP reference that most would not have heard of.

Reference 7710

Released in 1993 for 3 short months in a 34 mm case diameter (too small for my 18 cm wrist so it will be going to a deserving new home when I get down to it).

Though too small for me, I find this reference delightful. ❀️

Some History:

In 1993 (coincidentally the Acier number here as well), GP was using the Lemania 1873 manual-wind chronograph calibre in some watches. We remember the Richeville 2710 which also used the same calibre but was made in much larger quantities.

This one is Uber rare.

But GP management had a change of strategy and decided to make their chronos larger. Hence only 107 of these were made in full steel with 4 dial/hand variants. So approximately 28 made in this particular black dial variant were made.

Tritium dial with a coin-edge bezel. Pump pushers. With long lugs that make this wears more like a 35-36mm.

Bi-compax with no date.

NEO-vintage … when GP was owned by the Macaluso family.

Thought this was an interesting one to share.

About the Girard-Perregaux Richeville Ref. 2710

The Girard-Perregaux Richeville reference 2710 is a distinctive model within the Richeville collection, known for its tonneau-shaped case. This reference was part of a series that explored various complications and aesthetic interpretations of the Richeville form, offering a more classic and understated presence compared to some of its more complex siblings. It represents a period where Girard-Perregaux was refining its contemporary offerings while drawing on traditional watchmaking principles.

This particular reference features a tonneau-shaped case, typically crafted from precious metals. It houses a manual-wind chronograph movement, specifically the Lemania 1873 calibre, a movement known for its reliability and widespread use in high-end chronographs of the era. The case diameter measures 34 mm, a size that aligns with watch trends of the early 1990s. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal.

For collectors, the Richeville 2710 appeals to those who appreciate the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking and the use of respected third-party movements. Its relatively short production run, reportedly three months in 1993, contributes to its scarcity. The 34 mm case size positions it as a piece that may be particularly attractive to collectors who prefer smaller, more classically proportioned timepieces or those seeking a historically accurate representation of early 1990s watch design.

The pushers are a bit oversized and this gives it character. As a sector dial Chronograph, this is a well laid out design. The pulsation scale in on the rehaut. 🀝
