AndrewD's 2013 Baselworld report on the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Lady 38mm remains relevant for understanding the brand's commitment to women's horology. This piece highlights GP's dedication to mechanical movements in ladies' watches, a significant detail for collectors interested in the evolution of feminine timepieces beyond quartz. AndrewD's insights into the design and movement offer valuable context for appreciating this elegant reference.

Girard-Perregaux has always had great ladies watches, from Catβs Eyes to the Vintage 1945 collections, including tourbillons. Itβs great to see the tradition continue in the 1966 collection with the 30mm Lady and now at Baseworld the 38mm 1966 Lady. No quartz movement inside, rather the robust and finely finished automatic Caliber GP03300 with a power reserve of 46 hours.

The elegant lines of the 1966 case perfectly complement a feminine wrist and GP designers have balanced this with a dial made from arcs of mother of pearl and diamonds.

The 38mm case is in pink gold and set with 72 diamonds and comes with either a light MOP dial on white crocodile strap, suitable for evening and a dark dial suitable for shopping β at least according to my wife!

This collection is characterized by its rectangular or tonneau-shaped cases and a design language that evokes mid-20th century aesthetics. The Vintage 1945 series quickly became a cornerstone of Girard-Perregaux's offerings in the 1990s, reinterpreting classic forms with contemporary watchmaking standards. It represents a significant period for the brand in re-establishing its heritage-inspired collections.
Early models in the Vintage 1945 series typically featured stainless steel cases, though gold variants were also produced. The case dimensions varied depending on the specific model, often presenting a balanced profile suitable for dress wear. These watches were frequently equipped with automatic movements, showcasing Girard-Perregaux's in-house capabilities or finely finished outsourced calibers. The crystal was commonly sapphire, ensuring durability and legibility, while water resistance was generally suitable for daily wear rather than aquatic activities.
For collectors, the Vintage 1945 series appeals to those interested in neo-vintage watches that successfully blend historical design with modern execution. The 1994 introduction year marks it as one of the earlier and more influential lines from Girard-Perregaux's resurgence in the 1990s. Its various iterations, including time-only, small seconds, and later complicated versions, offer a range of choices for enthusiasts seeking a distinctive rectangular watch with a clear lineage.
So modern and elegant. Love it!
