Blomman Mr Blue introduces the Girard-Perregaux 1966 41mm with an intense blue dial, highlighting its aristocratic design and the brand's classic watchmaking expertise. This article delves into the aesthetic and mechanical details that make this timepiece a worthy heir to GP's refined style. Readers will appreciate the detailed look at its design elements and the GP01800-0004 manufacture caliber.

A worthy heir of the understated and refined Girard-Perregaux style, the 1966 collection embodies the brand's expertise in the design of classic watches. This collection is part of the tradition of Girard-Perregaux, a combination of elegance and watchmaking mastery. The care taken with each detail of the design by our craftsmen and master watchmakers, their painstakingly learnt gestures and the meticulous finishing combine to produce this secret alchemy.
The delicate balance of this timepiece is reflected in its sleek, harmonious proportions and sophisticated mechanics. Its elegance is enhanced by an intense blue note that adorns its dial. Its sunburst finish emphasizes rich light effects; gently curved, it is embellished with baton-shaped markers every fifteen minutes.

The pink or white gold case remains true to the pure lines of the Girard-Perregaux 1966 collection. 41 mm in diameter, it sports a slightly spherical crystal and inclined diamond polished bezel that enhances its delicacy. The sapphire crystal case-back opens onto another major high point of the watch, the GP01800-0004 Girard-Perregaux manufactured calibre. 13¼ lignes or almost 30 mm in diameter, it is composed of 190 components in total and has a minimum power reserve of 54 hours. Its pink gold oscillating weight is engraved with the brand name and decorated with "côtes de Genève".

The Girard Perregaux 1966 reference, issued in 2014, represents a specific iteration within the brand's 1966 collection, known for its classic design language. This particular model features a friendly complication, distinguishing it from simpler time-only variants within the same series. The 1966 line generally emphasizes traditional watchmaking aesthetics and proportions, appealing to those who appreciate understated horology.
The watch is housed in a case characteristic of the 1966 series. It typically features a sapphire crystal, offering clarity and scratch resistance. The movement powering this reference is an automatic caliber, consistent with Girard Perregaux's in-house manufacturing capabilities, providing a reliable power reserve suitable for daily wear.
For collectors, this reference offers a less commonly seen variant of the 1966 collection. Its appeal lies in its adherence to classical design principles and the inclusion of a practical complication. While specific dial and hand configurations can be subjects of discussion among enthusiasts, the overall presentation aligns with the brand's heritage in precision watchmaking.
Now that is looking pretty good. One more effort, remove the date, GP, please, pretty please! ;) Best, Nicolas
My friend, you are hard to please! ;) Me, I am OK with the date window.... But, please - blue background, silver numerals! :) Best Blomman
I love the blue dial , white gold, even happy with the date. For me though in 38mm please. We are a terrible bunch ;)
I just don't understand it. The designers at watch companies are paid to obsess over the details of the products they design. And somehow the vast majority of them completely ignore everything, it seems, about the date windows they put on their watches - from the way the aperture in the dial is designed, to the colours of the date wheel. So here we have a rather beautiful dial which has been simply sliced open and a wheel that makes no reference to the dial colour (it's not even blue on white; i
Really hard to please! ;) Best Blomman
Let's hope GP reads us here and changes the date wheel to blue/white... Best Blomman
