I am thinking to ad a high end complication watch. Have been trying the Langematik perpetual PT. Also the Patek perpetuals and annual calendars, but I do find the push piece adjustment to be outdated horology on a new watch and just can’t get my head around it.
Somehow I went back to look at high end chronographs. Lange 1815 has been on the radar for a long time. That movement is incredible. But I have an issue with Lange cases as they seem not to integrate well with the wrist but sit on it. Ends up being clumsy for my taste-even at 10-11 mm.
However today I tried two chronos on. The Patek 5170J the first in house Patek movement-exiting to read about it; I thought I wanted to give it a go. I was sure it would surprise me in the metal.
But the watch left me indifferent. The pushers were not really smooth. That chocked me a bit. nothing like the Lange.
Completely different with the Centigraphe. The whole concept of measuring 100’ of a second with a 3 Hz movement. The depth and the finish of the watch.
This watch is stirring emotions-it’s an amazing peace of horology and it’s a pleasure to have on the wrist.
Journe seems to embrace the classic with the new that leaves me out of breath.
So for this next complication move I think I’m sticking to Journe. I think! It’s a big decision and that Lange movements does stir emotions.
What would you do?

Best,

Jens

Any reason why you wont bite on a FPJ? [nt]

I love FPJ watches, but I think Lange is the better watch. A chronograph also is a question of unit numbers and evolution.

Lange has more and important background in the Richemont Group to make a reliable chronograph caliber.

Yes you’re right. FPJ can have issues with their movement but all I’ve heard is that they always solve them to perfection. They are going to be around for a while so I wouldn’t worry about movement and service.

My problem withe Lange is mainly the cases and lugs. The watchmaking is +++++++++

With the FPJ, every time you look at the rose gold movement, you'll know you made the right decision. [nt]

I would give another chance to Lange,

To diversify my collection, that mouvement surely deserves a second thought! The 1815 line is pretty wearable in my opinion, although agree Lange cases do not sit on the wrist as well Patek's. Have you though about other options? Other Independents or Vacheron, etc? Let us know your decision! Cheers, Alex
