blomman Mr Blue shares a passionate look at his Eterna-Matic KonTiki, an early diver from the golden era of 1958. His post delves into the watch's unique design, historical context, and the joy of finding it with its original bracelet. This article offers a glimpse into the charm of vintage Eterna and the personal connection collectors form with their timepieces.
Friends,
You remember my Eterna-Matic KonTiki.
A wonderful watch, an early diver from the fantastic watch year of 1958!
So many icons saw the first light between the years 1957-1959… A golden era!
Named after the raft Thor Heyerdahl sailed between Peru and the French Polynesia in 1947.
From “La Montre et les Métiers”, 1958 – Notice the lollipop second hand and the Mercedes hour hand?
See the competition from that year…
I love this watch, the tad quirky design, the smaller size (36-37mm) and of course the patina!
Ad from 1959, see the thin second and dauphin hands.
I found it on the original bracelet which is very smooth comfortable…
But, I prefer a leather strap for daily wear.
My problem has been that I didn’t have a proper buckle…
I was using a very nice, but not matching, Movado buckle (upper).
Now I have
finally been able to locate an Eterna buckle and may correct this
inconsistence!
Sounds like a very small thing, but for me it has been bugging me like crazy…
Felt almost like this guy! Ad from 1961.
Ah, much
better!
Now I can wear this watch without feeling an itch on my wrist…
Now I feel
like this guy, ready to swim with sharks!
Ad from 1959.
A watch like this you should be able to enjoy without any itches…
Do you have the same problems with your watches? Or is it just me…?!
Best
Blomman

But for me it's a great pleasure to have matching watch and buckle...! :) Best, my friend Blomman
i am every shade of envy.
deserves that special care, like the right buckle. Blomman, do you have a shot of the caseback, or is there nothing to see for the '57? I was wondering when the great rendering of Heyerdahls's raft shows up on the back of the KonTiki.
Thank you, Eterna-fan! :) I guess this one must be right up your ally.... Best Blomman
But no medallion as on the later versions. The Eterna logo on the sail... :) Thank you, Jporos! Best Blomman
