To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Sir Stirling Moss’s legendary 1955 victory at the 1000 Miglia, Chopard has issued a new variant of its Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph limited to 70 pieces (ref. 168619-3012).

On May 1st, 1955, Sir Stirling Moss and co-driver Denis Jenkinson took the chequered flag in the gruelling 1000-mile race with a record time of 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds, averaging an astonishing 97.96 mph (157.65 km/h) – a record that stands to this day.

I've been able to try on this new version during my last stay in Paris.

The silver-toned dial with an opaline finish is reminiscent of the matte silver colour of Stirling Moss’ Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, a 300-horsepower open-top roadster and an icon of the Silver Arrows era.

The 40.5 x 12.88 mm Lucent Steel case is paired with a perforated rally-style brown calfskin strap.

The caseback features the Mille Miglia insignia on the perimeter, Moss’ record-breaking time and date and an interlocking chequered flag and a Union Jack on the sapphire crystal.

As I'm personally not into cars, it's difficult for me to be fully excited, but it's a nice watch nonetheless.

Best, Emmanuel

Thanks for the great shots 👌🏻👍🏻

Of the race as much as the watch 🙌🏻🏁 While I find the MM line decent enough they really should think about doing something about that date window and the date disc not matching the dial color 🤷🏻‍♂️ Just my 2 cents…

I am with you 100% on this.

I have been asking Chopard for years to create a no date version to no avail. 😟

They probably will come to a no date version someday

as they’ve already made this step for some LUCs and Alpine Eagles. Fingers crossed !

I know almost nothing about racing nor about the Mille Miglia,

but finding these photos and looking at them was a great pleasure. I also found some photos of the terrible accidents that occurred during this race unfortunately… And concerning the date, I couldn’t agree more with you! Best, Emmanuel

First of all…

Congratulations on reaching 8.000 posts - we very much appreciate all the effort put into collecting information and educating us on pieces less well known generally 🎊🎉🎈👍🏻🙏🏻 And yes, like many of the historical races it was brutal and glorious, both 🙌🏻👍🏻🦾
