WatchFred shares an extraordinary tale of dedication in restoring a rare 1961 Breitling Unitime Ref. 2610. This post chronicles his multi-year quest to recreate a destroyed bezel insert, offering a unique insight into the challenges and triumphs of vintage watch restoration.

The Navitimer reference 806 is a notable early iteration of Breitling's slide rule chronograph, distinguished by its comprehensive circular slide rule bezel. This reference established many of the visual and functional characteristics that would define the Navitimer line for decades. It represents a foundational piece in the development of the brand's instrument watches, designed for calculations relevant to navigation.
The watch features a 40 mm stainless steel case, housing a manual-wind Venus 178 column-wheel chronograph caliber. This movement provides a power reserve of approximately 45 hours. The dial is black, protected by an acrylic crystal, and the watch offers a water resistance of 30 meters. The bi-directional rotating bezel is integral to the slide rule function.
For collectors, the reference 806 is significant as an early example of the Navitimer, appealing to those interested in the historical progression of aviation-related timepieces. Its production span saw variations in dial printing and sub-dial configurations, which are points of interest for specialized collectors. The model's enduring design has influenced subsequent generations of the Navitimer.
Are you and your friends thinking about taking on similar projects for other collectors? (No, I don't have one myself.)
we are manufacturing electronics for the automotive industries & the AV market, not planning to branch out into watch restoration; this was a totally lunatic project I decided to have my people do, as I wanted to save this watch; an ROI was never thought about and could never be reached. But if somebody wants to try by himself, I'll be happy to help with that bit of experience we acquired. best, Fred
But what an appealing Watch! I will post one with the metalic insert, which came, from my understanding, after your version. Superb post, great Watch. Thank you, Fred. Nicolas
Fred, Congratulations for your watch and for your quest for the bezel. This shows your love for Breitling and your care for those vintage beauties. Cheers and thanks for sharing, Nilo
Congratulation! I would love to follow the WT theme with one or two from the Breitling family. My Tissot Navigator says hello... Best Blomman
WatchFred, I thank you for a most compelling tale of dedication to an (almost) impossible cause. Also, for educating me about Breitling watches that I never knew about. Regards, MTF
