Shortys home presents a comprehensive photo overview of Breguet's new Marine series, captured during an exhibition at the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg. This post meticulously details the nautical inspirations woven into each timepiece, from movement rotors to dial guilloché, offering a deep dive into the collection's design philosophy.

The time I spent during the Breguet exhibition at the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg had a quite high number of photos as a result, some of which I already shared with you in the 5177, Marine Chronographe Titane on bracelet and Reine de Naples threads. Now let me share an overview on the Marine Collection on strap, with some photos of the brand new Marine Dame in addition.

The Breguet La Marine timepieces carry numerous references to the nautical world, some very obvious, some needing more explanation. Just to name a few: you will find reference to a ship rudder in the movement rotors and the deployant clasps, the case uses waves as crown protectors or pushers, the moving parts of the lugs are to resemble navigation marks sitting on top of buoys, the counterweight to the central seconds hands show the letter B from the nautical flag alphabet, the 5 minute indices and some small hands on subdials refer to nautical signal flags. The one piece roman numerals, filled with luminous material, find their origin in some nautical symbolised drawings, the guilloche dials obviously show some beautiful waves, the Geneva stripes on the movements are in fact no Geneva stripes but meant to resemble boat decks.

To make the post easier to create, all photos will follow in straight order, starting with the Marine Date in rose gold with silver dial, followed by the Marine Chronographe white gold with blue dial, the Marine Alarm Musicale titanium with slate grey dial and finally the Marine Dame in white gold with an all new guilloche dial named Marea. Let me close the introduction by pointing out that the photos do not really do justice to the character and beauty of the watches. The Breguet Marine should be seen in the metal to fully appreciate the details and the flawless execution.

So here we go 😉

Hope you enjoyed the photos!

Cheers
Henrik

About the Breguet Classique Ref. 5177

The Breguet Classique reference 5177 represents an automatic entry within the Classique collection, distinguished by its 38mm case proportions and rose gold construction. This reference utilizes automatic movement technology within the traditional Classique aesthetic framework.

The 38mm case is crafted from 18k rose gold and houses an automatic movement. The silver dial provides contrast against the warm gold case material. Sapphire crystal protects the dial surface, while the watch maintains 30 meters of water resistance. The bezel design remains fixed in position.

Reference 5177 appeals to collectors seeking automatic movement functionality within traditional dress watch proportions. The 38mm case size positions this reference for those preferring mid-sized case dimensions, while the rose gold construction and silver dial combination offers specific aesthetic preferences within the broader Classique automatic range.

I have never seen diamonds set on a movement rotor before. Is this something exclusive to Breguet? Or have I just been missing out? Thanks for the great pictures. All the best... HEO

Those watches put the “luxe” in “luxury.” Gorgeous photos, too.

The photography is better than what the brand puts in its catalogues. Simply stunning.
