In a horological landscape often challenged by the complexities of global timekeeping, quattro's insightful post on the Bovet Dimier Récital 30 illuminates how this timepiece addresses two persistent issues: Daylight Saving Time (DST) and Indian Standard Time (IST). His detailed breakdown, accompanied by striking visuals, showcases Bovet's innovative approach to the world time complication, making a compelling case for its significance in modern watchmaking.

With the newly released Dimier Récital 30, Bovet solved two problems which ordinary worldtimers are unable to deal with:

  • the Daylight Saving Time periods,
  • the Indian Standard Time.
Let's explain:

1) Concerning the Daylight Saving Time (DST), each year can be divided into four time periods:

  • UTC – Coordinated Universal Time, starting First Sunday of November - No Daylight Saving Time
  • AST – American Summer Time, starting Second Sunday of March
  • EAS – European and American Summer Time, starting Last Sunday of March
  • EWT – European Winter Time, starting Last Sunday of October

2) Indian Standard Time, i.e. the time zone observed throughout the Republic of India, has an unusual time offset of UTC+05:30.

The Bovet Récital 30, which won the GPHG 2025 Men's Complication Watch Prize, does three things:

  • It allows, thanks to the pusher located at 2 o'clock, to instantly change the period of the year: UTC, AST, EAS or EWT.
  • It allows to change from one time zone to the next by pressing the pusher located at 4 o'clock, which advances the central 24-hour ring by one hour per push.
  • It features a second minute hand, offset by 30 minutes from the main minute hand, which indicates the Indian time.
It comes in two different versions + a recently added limited edition.

Let's have a look.

A/ THE UNIVERSAL VERSION

In this Coordinated Universal Time version, New Delhi is in red or yellow on the dial with a matching arrow indicator, and the second color-matched minute hand is linked to New Delhi time (with its 30 minute off-set).

NB: on Bovet's dedicated webpage, it is said and shown that "New Delhi is in black on the dial", but all the live photos I've seen contradict this statement. I think it might be a mistake.

1/ TITANIUM / RED VARIANT

The watch measures 42 x 12 mm and is powered by self-winding calibre R30-70-001.

In the centre of the dial is the 24-hour ring linked to the 24 cities on the rollers and surrounded by a blue hand-guilloché area with a day/night indicator linked to local time.

B/ THE INDIAN VERSION

This second version, designed for collectors living in India, links the main hour and minute hands to New Delhi time (both of which are yellow or red-colored, matching the New Delhi triangular indicator on the dial) and the world time hours are off-set by 30 minutes, while the second minute hand (silver on the titanium, gold on the 18K red gold version) is linked to the minutes for the rest of the world.

Below is the titanium/yellow variant only.

C/ THE SEDDIQI LIMITED EDITION

This limited edition of 7 pieces was made to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the UAE's leading luxury retailer, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.

The green guilloché surrounding the indicator honours Dubai, which is highlighted in red on the roller and printed in Arabic.

The number 7 is written in Eastern-Arabic character, both on the dial and on the rotor.

For this special edition, New Delhi is no longer marked on the minutes track, and there's no dedicated extra minutes hand

D/ THE RÉCITAL 28 PROWESS 1

The roller-system allowing to solve the Daylight Saving Time problem was first invented for the Récital 28 Prowess 1, which won the GPHG 2024 Mechanical Exception Watch Prize.

This watch is a Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon Worldtimer.

The Dimier “Writing Desk” titanium case measures 46.3 x 17.85 mm.

This is how I think about it. Wonderful Now let’s talk price. 98k CHF for gold. 68k CHF for titanium Now that’s before any taxes or import duties. That’s just stupid expensive. If you said 25k-30k ok that checks out. They took materials and labor inflation and multiplied it by 5 and I’m being kind. Wait 5 years and buy it for <25k US with box and papers.

than is the case for many other Bovet watches. And, yes, the price is too high. Best, Emmanuel
