Hi all,

Just wanted to check with the forum if anyone's experience something similar, and find out what's the likely cause.

So, sometime in late Sep 19, I sent in my 1815 Chrono. for servicing; I overwound the spring, and it broke.
Very shortly after, the ALS boutique called me to say that my dial had 'oxidation' and ask if I would like to change the dial.

At that time, I thought it was some random small speck that could only be seen at some angle and closed up as I never noticed any oxidation on the dial before. I therefore informed ALS to just deal with the spring issue.
Fast forward to the present, apparently the spring's resolved, but ALS' asking me again if I wanted a new dial. This time, they sent some pictures of the 'oxidation' - see the dark border of the dial from 11 o'clock to 2 o'clock.

Anyone experienced something like this before? Is it a moisture seepage issue?  I will probably listen to ALS and get a fresh dial but I am curious as to its cause.
Any input will be appreciated. TIA!

About the A. Lange and Söhne Emil Lange Ref. 1815

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 reference 206.032, introduced in 1999, is a notable example of the brand's commitment to traditional watchmaking principles. This model is part of the 1815 collection, which pays homage to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange and emphasizes classic design elements such as Arabic numerals and blued hands, drawing inspiration from historical Lange pocket watches. It represents a more understated and purist aesthetic compared to some of the brand's more complex offerings, focusing on fundamental horological excellence.

This particular reference features an 18k rose gold case measuring 36mm in diameter and 7.5mm in thickness. It houses the manually wound L941.1 caliber, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front, protecting a solid silver dial. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion.

The 1815 206.032 appeals to collectors who appreciate classical proportions and a focus on fundamental watchmaking without excessive complications. Its smaller case size reflects a more traditional approach to men's wristwatches, making it a desirable piece for those seeking a discreet yet highly refined timepiece. The combination of rose gold and a silver dial offers a warm and legible presentation, consistent with the collection's historical inspirations.

No. Very strange... [nt]

The dial is solid silver. I assume it's coated to prevent oxidation so it's probably a flaw in the coating. [nt]

Did ALS indicate a cause for the oxidation

I would at least ask them if this is more common and who is liable.

Yes, still waiting for ALS to get back to me on its cause.

Really surprised that this happened for a Lange.

I think not a question of if it should be replaced but rather if they’ll shoulder the costs if it’s out of warranty. Looks like a product defect to me [nt]

I think they should cover it under warranty.

Nonethess if it continues. you could start a new vintage/patinated lange collection trend. Actually it could develop into something uniquely sexy lange
