Background to the release

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Gaïa Prize, in 2019, the Musée International d’Horlogerie created another model, the MIH Gaïa watch, put up for subscription in a limited run of 200 watches with a blue-PVD coated dial. For the record: “The Prix Gaïa is the only award of its kind to honour men and women who have dedicated their career to the measurement of time. By awarding this distinction each year, the MIH underlines the undeniably major contribution its winners have made to the field of watchmaking, its profile and its culture.”

Time is indicated on two discs: rising hours in a window at 12 o’clock, and the the minutes on a disc just below. It’s a classically sized timepiece, with a steel case that’s 39mm in diameter and just under 10mm high. Inside is a Sellita SW400-1, an automatic movement that’s a clone of the ETA 2824 modified to have a wider base plate to suit a larger case.
