For sale is my 1890s pink gold Turler-retailed Grande et petite sonnerie pocket watch. As you would expect, this can be used in ‘silence’ mode but also ‘quarts’ and ‘heures et quarts’ options.
The case is a substantial plain polish 55m case with repeater trip in the band and clockwatch selection levers at the edge of the bezel. The dial, which sits beneath the plain gold hunter front, is white enamel with gold and blued steel hands and a seconds sub-dial.
There are no markings on the dial but the back hunter opens to reveal a cuvette engraved with: “Horlogerie soignée, Werner Turler, Lucerne / Répetition Grande Sonnerie a Quarts & Minutes / Qualité Extra Soignée / Turler & Co Ltd, London”
Then the movement sits beneath that and is a frosted gilt 36 jewel tandem wind movement jewelled to the centre and the hammers. The person selling it to me thought it was a Louis-Elysée Piguet movement but I can’t evidence that and Turler wasn’t able to tell me the maker without having the watch in for some months. However, whoever produced it, it is a spectacular movement – G&PS movements from 130 years ago didn’t have CAD or CNC machines and the appearance and the sound of the chimes is magical.
I've owned the pocket watch since 2013. I’ve not had it serviced since buying it and, though it still runs and chimes, it merits a service from someone with suitable expertise as the number of hour chimes does not now always correspond with the time shown.
I am selling with a (separately-purchased) pink and white gold watch chain (c. 1910), which weighs 14.5g and measures 22cm from the T-bar to the dog clip. Each double-length link is made up of pink gold with white gold features and knot links with pink and white gold entwined.
I don’t wear suits any more so can’t find enough times to wear this and therefore am letting it go. Price is firm at this stage. No trades, please. Watch and I are in UK.
