Richard Lange Test Drive

I received my RG RL 9/12 from my AD. I have only one other Lange- a Lange 1. The L1 returned from an Alki tuneup recently and I decided to see how the accuracy of my two watches compared. I let them run for 7 days face up. Why 7 days? I could not be sure the RL had a real deviation from the time signal until after 3 days so I let the test go to 7 days.

The RL averaged +1.3 sec. per 24 hours

The L1 averaged +5.1 sec. per 24 hours

These results were so unexpected that I did a 3 day retest with comparable results. I am sure that a more exhaustive test in the various positions would produce different results but I am confident that my RL is very accurate when compared to my L1.

Other Comments:

The RL is my favorite of the two. The 40 vrs. 38.5 MM size is hard to notice on my wrist. The thickness of the RL raises the crown further above my skin so that the crown never touches my wrist. The L1 crown has always dug into my skin. I have "plesantly plump" 8 1/2" wrists. The RL is much more comfortable for me to wear. The RL is heavier and that makes me feel like I got more gold for my money but I expect it`s actually German silver. But even a non-existant bargan is an advantage at these prices.

I have examined the RL with my loop and can find no fault. It appears flawless but I also felt that way about my first wife. I am sure that the RL`s beauty is more than skin deep. I find it most pleasing. I also feel that way about my L1. I want them both. Each is different and pleasing. Since no attorney or judge is involved, I will have them both.

The dial of the RL is flawless with perfectly executed Roman numerals. My higher education involved 7 years of Latin and I find this to be an advantage that may not appeal to all. The RL and the L1 both have R numerals and I don`t worry about what others may prefer.

Hands. I like the blue RL second hand. I thought I would prefer blued hands on the RL. I have a RG watch with blued hands. I compared the two color options and have decided that I favor the gold hands. At least for now. The gold hands also work better for me in reduced light with both the RL and the L1. And yes- the gold hands are a better value than blued steel at these prices.

Watch strap. The RL has a pleasing dark brown color. I would have prefered a white edge stich but it maybe that all my taste is in my mouth(I am from the South). It is a finely crafted thing of beauty and of higher quality than the original strap on my L1. It is very comfortable. I think I am in luv.Tru luv at these prices can be unexpected.

Conclusion. The major advantages of the RL over the L1 are accuracy and comfort. Other than that- they are different. Does that sum it up for me? Yes.

Hope this has shed some light with out raising a hornets nest. Please pardon my dixlexia and attempts at levity. I think we often get too wound up and take things too seriously at risk of busting a spring.

Party on TM!
