New strap for my Striking Time

Feb 09, 2024,14:51 PM

I’ve had this one in my strap box for about 9 months now - just put it on. It’s a Camille Fournet Carbon Alligator. The stock strap is just a little too long but the custom sizing from CF places the buckle just right and the tail end being a little shorter too sits closer to the buckle. The matt carbon finish is just different enough from the OEM strap to make a noticeable difference.

I love CF straps. The quality and fit is absolutely first class. The only challenge is the CITES certification requirements to ship outside of the EU.

The matte finish on the leather is very nice...something I would consider for sure on future straps. I willl have to research CF a bit more. Thanks for sharing!

Camille Fournet supply straps to JLC I believe.

I’ve purchased many straps from them over the years - as well as Jean Rousseau and ABP Concept (also based in Paris). I believe their quality control to be superior to the others based on the straps that I’ve had from each. Definitely worth a look.

I confirm.

I like that mat black strap. Plays very well with that beautiful attention getting Zetwerk by toning it down a bit

The Zeitwerk is one of my favorite watches. Truly special.

Yes - the matt black finish is a bit different.

I’ve had one other strap with a similar finish for about 7 years now from H Moser. Makes a nice change from the semi-matt finish on most straps. If it follows the Moser patina it will gloss up a little over time - but still not approaching a semi-matt fin...

Looks terrific

I am curious to see how the matte finish on the strap ages. Do you know what type of patina forms, if any?

This is a 7 year old carbon finish strap from H Moser

Does get a little glossier but still distinctive compared to a semi-matt finish. ...

Thanks.

It’s just a little bit more industrial than the OEM strap and adds a bit of casual steampunk to the watch in my eyes.

Not sure.

I’ve had nubuck finishes on calfskin and kudu but not alligator. It looks finer to me. Both CF and Moser referred to the finish as carbon or carbonized.

Ah ok; I always thought the “carbon” was referring to the black color

; not the finish. 🤷‍♂️

Yes - the finish is what is referenced by the term.

Best way I can describe it is that it’s like it’s been lightly sanded with a fine grade sandpaper. No sheen at all to the finish.

Thats one great looking watch 🤩

You just inspired me to get a similar matte black strap for my ZW.

I found a Canada based strap maker to make one for me. Should be here in a few weeks.
