Not only for watches, but for most other items I've purchased I tend to keep their full packaging as they have some sentimental value. For watches I definitely keep even the plastic protectors! For the record I'm not a flipper smile
Problem is with the storage space..

My new acquisition of my Patek Phillipe without giving me the paper box in brown.

 By: AK Tan : July 25th, 2017-10:08
I acquired my Patek Phillipe watch yesterday from one of the AD in Kuala Lumpur. However, I was not given the paper box in light brown (as I known my AD call it as shipment box) and I was told by my AD that this is the latest instructions given by Patek t...

Yes, you won't get the brown box anymore.

See this topic: www.watchprosite.com

Yes this is indeed true..

 By: Langeholic : July 25th, 2017-10:33
As of the 1st July all AD's must sell their stock completely unwrapped. The brown box is for dealers only and cannot be passed onto clients. Patek is keen to stamp out Grey market dealers that buy boxed items from AD's and reselling them on.

I think this one should be included

My impression was that the "double sealed" would not exist more, that is the plastic wrap around the watch and the little cardboard box that it comes in, will not be given to the customer. Could it be that your AD has mixed up the message from PP?

Yes, it is official

In fact whether we talk about the usual box we see in NafetS's answer or the one you are posting, no other box than the nice wooden presentation box should be provided with the watch. Some retailers have been providing the first one often but they shouldn...

Presntation box outer box?

 By: watch-er : July 25th, 2017-11:08
You were referring to the cardboard box the presentation box comes in. I think most people can live without that. The box people want is the shipping box the actual watch is shipped in from the factory to the AD. It makes a nice storage box and is very us...

Hello AK!

I too am now based in Kuala Lumpur having spent many years living in the UK. I had been told by my AD in the UK that Thierry Stern personally has issued the new instruction that all Patek watches are to be sold with their wooden box only and none of the o...

Hi Sham

On the subject at hand, to some extent I do agree to PP's 'new' policy but with some reservations on its eventual and most importantly, its consistent enforcement. Only time would tell how this policy would eventually arrest the rampant [in some parts of ...

Hi Kamal!

Thank you for your feedback. I too believe that the outer brown carton box should be given to customers. I agree that ultimately it is the watch that is the most important item but I have seen Patek improve their packaging over the last two decades making...

I couldn't agree with you more

 By: jim_94104 : July 25th, 2017-14:07
not that I could afford a PP, but if I could, I will wearing it most often. Any boxes will just be taking up space and yes, that is just a poor man's mentality.

Although I am in agreement with Patek's new policy

 By: sham1 : July 25th, 2017-14:20
given a choice, I would have liked to keep every single box or packaging that accompanies the watch. Call me a hoarder or a poor man (and I would probably be guilty on both counts! ) but I even keep the boxes on every Patek gift I have been been given (ti...

Agreed on all counts! :-)

Every single purchase I make, be it a watch or a vacuum cleaner has been made which much thought and frequently with much love so all the boxes are kept, not only for warranty purposes but ease of transportation and I have this thing about keeping all ite...

I don't care much about the small brown box holding the watch,

 By: riverside / Henry : July 25th, 2017-17:06
as I'm not a speculator. However, I do hope to keep the outer brown carton box to protect the nice wooden box from accidentally acquiring any chips, dents or scratches. Henry

Like Sham, I too keep wherever possible every component of my purchase.

 By: 5980 : July 25th, 2017-17:59
I've done so since day one and continue to do so wherever possible. Not because I'm a speculator (I am not), but rather because I believe each element contributes positively to my buying and collecting experience. It's genetic predisposition I suppose 😐 ...

They do give you a box

 By: watch-er : July 26th, 2017-05:39
The presentation case comes in a nice outer box which is brown. The outer cardboard box which gives the item number and just protects the brown box from rough shipping is really totally utter worthless to any consumer EXCEPT it might help hide the watch i...

Question!

 By: Folaly : July 25th, 2017-21:54
How the new rules would limit the grey market ?

There are quite a number of markets

 By: sham1 : July 25th, 2017-22:14
especially in Asia where the buyers insist that the watch is sealed and boxed when they buy it (even in he 'ued' market) In the UK for example, two to three years ago when there was an influx of Chinese tourists, all ADs would ensure that they would not r...

It's a shipment box. That us to protect a watch during shipment!

 By: Patekphilippecollector : July 26th, 2017-04:03
We the collectors have made it more significant than that! If for decades we had received our nice new shiny Patek inside its mahogany box, none would be the wiser!!! I definately don't remember getting a "coffin" for ny first Rolex purchase in the 2990's...

Agreed and understood Karl

 By: sham1 : July 26th, 2017-04:17
but there are people who keep moving their watches around from country to country so obviously any form of added protection would be helpful. I have just relocated to Malaysia from the UK and am transporting my Patek boxes one at a time in my hand luggage...

Exquisite Karl!

 By: sham1 : July 26th, 2017-10:06
but these lovely cases protect the watches. How about the protection for the wooden box?!

:-)

 By: sham1 : July 26th, 2017-13:13
I can never argue with bubble wrap! For the record, the wooden box is wrapped in bubble wrap before being put into the shipment box.

I know :-) [nt]

I think

the box will keep everything in place
