i'm confused @@

rpilot:

where did you get the idea that "is PP_Geneve really a PP representative"? i never made such a claim, neither did i ever post anything worth of being suspicious of speaking with the authority of pp.

yes, i use "PP" and "Geneve" in my acronym, but thereby i don't intend to imply any official or real connection with PP, except of being a great fan thereof. otherwise, i might start to guess that rpilot is a fighter pilot in real life or that someone calling himself "captain america" on a comics forum is actually walking around with red boots...

also, regarding "PP did not even dignify me with a response when I sent a polite email asking if": i was not able to read -let alone dignify- your email because a) you don't know my email address, and b) i never got any message from you in my message box on this forum in the first place...
furthermore, assuming that you registered a week ago and send me a message a few days ago: even if i would have received your message -which i didn't!- you should have the patience to wait at least 1 week, or resend the message, before expressing your disappointment regarding me, or any other member on this forum.

anyway, welcome here! and no: i'm not working for PP (maybe i should send them my cv?).

well... on a second thought: i wonder if there actually is a representative of patek HQ registered in -or merely reading- this forum...  smile

Why I will never own a Patek. :: Sadly ::

 By: rpilot : August 19th, 2011-06:52
I have been searching for an ultimate watch for myself. I am not a "REAL WIS" but have kept up a healthy interest for myself. I narrowed it down to 2 brands for various reasons ... AL & S and Patek. As much as I like Patek, I realized that I would have to...

use of the diamond accent? There are a number of references which cover a broad range from simple to complicated. Look around, I'm sure there's something out there for you.

+1... Was trying to remember when PP started to use the famous diamond

Between the lugs. Best, Nicolas.

Which year was that? Before 2000? [nt]

diamond in platinum case

 By: atrco : August 20th, 2011-03:42
I just acquired a 5056P with an archival letter stating that the watch was manufactured in 1999 with a date of sale of November, 1999 and it has the diamond. I believe the 3035 made its debut in 1997, but a knowledgeable dealer told me he tought Patek sta...

Thanks, atrco, for your input.

The fact is that I never knew with precision he first " use " of a diamond between the lugs for the platinum PP watches. There are many contradictory informations, and I start to wonder of it doesn't depend of the models... I'm thinking loud, it is just a...

Haha, well, my 3940 P did not have it

I thought I was the only one who 'could not stand' the diamond. Never liked it! Mine was an '05 or bought that year. This message has been edited by Mostel on 2011-08-19 10:35:43

If you think that's obnoxious

 By: asg : August 19th, 2011-13:27
You havent met me in person yet - Go whine somewhere else. I agree with you - Patek's are way too blingy. I would stay away at all costs. Why do we let posts like this stay?

The diamond on the platinum cases........

 By: TonyR : August 19th, 2011-15:40
are not a big deal IMO. You don't even see the diamond unless you know to look for it. I can understand that the prices on Patek's platinum pieces are much higher than their gold models but the diamond placed on the bottom underside of the case should not...

you can always remove the diamond!!. [nt]

I absolutely have no problem with the diamond.

 By: Mineral : August 19th, 2011-20:29
for me the diamond make the platinum case special in patek watches.

somehow that doesn't make the top 10000

in my list of things that bother me Although I could easily do without it, and even I am bothered by the silly cabochon sapphire that Glashütte Original puts on the crown of their platinum pieces. As usual, Lange gets it right. Best Andreas

Forgets to give their dials any style Oopse - did I just post that? Any brand that can make Patek look staid....well, enough said. Yawn.

my mileage varies

Buy the 5035P then, just before the 5056P That started the diamond indicator

There are still some pristine example for sale. Best, Horo

So, are we supposed to feel / share your pain?

 By: Zhege : August 20th, 2011-06:14
Seriously, if it bothers you that much, don't buy it. Just don't whine about it Oh, and nice first post, rpilot. Perhaps after you get a non-diamond-bearing Lange, you can have a second, and more positive post. There is an ALS forum here.

Why is this guy getting flamed?

 By: Mostel : August 21st, 2011-16:33
It's a completely legitimate DESIGN critique on the gent's part. MUST WE love diamonds? What's the problem here? Diamonds are garish and feminine, except in very rare cases. But when some guy shows us his diamond encrusted 5971, we don't say, 'oh God, I'm...

Agreed, Mostel, and his post raised a tough question about the first time PP

 By: amanico : August 21st, 2011-21:42
Put a diamond between the lug of their platinum watches. There is no reason to flame him, indeed, and even if the diamond doesn't bother me, as it is not too visible, I would also have preferred without. Best, Nicolas.

I searched but found nothing clear except....

Hi, The press kit of the 5100 and 5110, launched together in 2000, make a great deal of this little diamond, perhaps as if it was a new thing. Cheers Dje

what really bothers me

 By: radone : August 20th, 2011-10:30
What really bothers me is that I do not afford to turn most of my white gold watches, Patek or not, into platinum cases (with diamond included) ;-) R

nobody will

 By: PP_Geneve : August 20th, 2011-15:00
apparently, nobody owns a PP -not even our dear moderator Dje. but you can still buy one (or more). you can "have" a patek, but you don't "own" it.

Well..
