I am considering the following trade.........

 By: Topcat30093 : March 4th, 2013-23:34
And your thoughts and views would be very much appreciated. I am considering a trade of my 5205G + cash (my end) to purchase a 3940R. Recently, my 5205 came back from Patek after having the dial changed for the lighter one, which makes readability a lot b...

just buy new one and save 5205G

 By: EDJA : March 5th, 2013-00:11
as the daily watch - 5205 is great choice. 3940 is fantastic special occasions watch imo

Apologise, I should have made things clearer....

In my current life, unless I win the lottery, I shall never be able to afford another Patek. In an ideal world, your suggestion would make perfect sense. But unfortunately I shall only ever own one Patek.

Go for the 3940. But I am biased, I am not an annual calendar guy.

Plus I love the " surranné " charm of the 3940. Best, Nicolas

An Patek AC and Perpetual are two different

watches and they do not compete in the same class. I would change any PP AC to any PP perpetual. Best, Kari

Wearing experience.

3940 and 5205 offer very different wearing experience. 3940 is a very elegant and very thin watch while 5205 is significantly thicker and bigger. No question that perpetual calendar is more desired in a sense than annual calendar for watch collectors. I t...

I would get 3940

I like the AC very much, but I see the complication as a "compromise" in the end. The 3940 is a dream watch. Like you, I prefer it vs. the 5140.

What are your motivations to do so?

 By: small-luxury-world : March 5th, 2013-09:52
Only the readability? Annual vs perpetual calendar? Anything else? For me the beauty (subjective, I know) and the feeling on my wrist is more important than the (level of) complication. Oliver

Far prefer 3940. Never liked 5205. All a matter of personal preference. No right or wrong.

Thanks you gentlemen for your thoughts.......

You all have valid points and are positive in your wording, which is pleasing to read. Grisar, I can understand your thoughts, but I have been fortunate to have always worn a mixture of size watches, so adapting to either a smaller or larger diameter size...

I like the 3940 very much and would make the trade as

long as the additional money is within reason. There is a difference between the two which may be something to consider, notably the lack of a seconds hand in the 3940. Would that be an issue for you?

That is an excellent point Whit...........

The 5140 that I had, also came without a second hand. And though, it was not the reason why I didn't bond with it, I did wish that it had one. But now I believe that over the many years that I have followed this crazy passion of ours and my tastes have ch...

In addition Tony, the "quiet" 3940 has its appeal,

 By: Mech : March 6th, 2013-16:13
I had the 'lively' center sweep 3495 but that didn't make me love my 3940 any lesser. Also, it's increasingly become my daily wearer too, especially the subtleness of a white metal 3940G. I wore alot more than the 3940J...! Just me... Mech.

Tony, coming from a owner of 3940 and 5140

I can really say the 1mm size makes very little difference but the cluttered dial, a lot. And I think the 3940R is a superb addition to your collection. Bravo. Mech.

Coming from a friend who has also experienced the wearing/ownership of both PC's it speaks volumes. :)

Tony, not to distract you further, I was wearing

this piece yesterday and it felt pretty good too :) Mech. ...

As a big fan of Mech's collection...

... And a fan of perpetual calendars, big vote (again) for the classic, nay, uber-classic, 3940. Hehe.

Ah Mech, that is one beautiful Patek.......

I saw one just before Christmas and it wore very nicely on my wrist. Then I happened to look at the price and I had to hand it back!! LOL :) Anyway tomorrow I may have something new, to me, on my wrist?????????

 By: Grisar : March 9th, 2013-05:40
Just happen to see a 3940P today. It's a very balanced, elegant, quite and attractive watch.

Go for it!
