Tension Ring Colour Matching.

Mar 20, 2012,09:55 AM

Dear friends.

Sometimes , Omega made dials with gold hands anh markers for SS case. Yesterday, I received a Seamaster made that way and it has a silver  tension ring that matches  the case.
I changed the crystal and choose the gold ring matching the hands and markers instead.

Here are the before and after pics of the same watch. Which one do you prefer ?

Silver ring

Gold ring

Best regards

Hoi.

Hi Hoi, interesting question I must confess... I prefer silver for 2 reasons: 1) it matches the case and I think the tension ring is part of the case, not the dial. 2) I think that the watch left the factory with a silver colored ring. But it is fun to pl...

The crystal

Hi Erich That crystal is not original, that's why I changed it.

My feeling is . . .

. . . the original silver ring offers a less obvious overall presentation than the gold. I can see what you're trying to accomplish, Hoi, but over the long run, the aesthetic blending offered by the gold ring in the context of matching the hands and marke...

the tension ring should match the colour of the case. In this particular case I also prefer the silver ring to the gold tension ring, though the gold ring doesn't look too bad with this dial. As always Hoi, I enjoy your informative 'adventures in Omega wa...

Always love Hoi for his skill and his sheer adventurer's attitude...

...and love this comparison. I do agree that the gold insert (the gold color less accentuated by photos, I believe) would contrast too much with the steel case -certainly in real life, and would not be to my personal taste That being said, Hoi, our opinio...

There's a bit of a colour cast in both photos so .......

it is difficult to decide which of the two is the better - having said that, I would probably go for the silver. Cheers Andrew

I prefer the silver. My watchaker swapped the tension ring on a 168.025 that had gold markers to gol and it just bugged me until I had him reverse the process and return the silver ring. Cheers Desmond

Thanks all.

Looks like everybody is on the same side. The reason I used the gold ring on it just because it came with a non omega crystal and I have a bit too many silver rings on gold dials already. It's like a variation from a main theme and instead of staccato, I ...

And the true purist will want the watch as close as possible to how it came from the factory!

Actually have more of these frankens that I have put together which I will show here once completed. I think of it as a creative use of the parts in my box.

Looking forward to seeing them soon.

I like to see them as soon as you finish them. (working with those brings lots of fun, right?) Now, I have a question for all of you here _which one is more franken ? the one with the silver ring (not from Omega) or the one with gold ring (from Omega but ...

I thouht that a gold ring could be original when the indes and hands are gold even in a steel case. I thought it just was sometimes silver and sometimes gold depending on the look you wanted. This one fron early 50'ties have - then incorrectly - also a go...

interesting change of look Hoi

i've got several steel cased, silver dialled, gold indices omegas, but i dont think any of them have a gold tension ring. it certainly lights up what could be a very boring all silver look and i like it. it suits the deville and would probably suit the co...

would this improve with a gold tension ring ??

It depends

 By: hoipolloi : March 22nd, 2012-15:07
Hi Graham. It depends on your taste, if you like to maximize the gold refections from the markers, hands , you should try it and see the difference.

i might try it Hoi....

i might try it Hoi. next time i'm sending a watch in to my man i might send this as well and ask him to put one in, keeping the original of course. i do have a plexi remover tool so i could do it myself. a dangerous thought best G...
