Recommend a Low-Budget Watch for an Imposter Polymath

I graduated from law school decades ago then began what I euphemistically call a "non-linear" legal career. In recent times I have attempted to move my in-house practice in the direction of data privacy and protection. As a kind of therapy - b ecause I wa...

Sincere congratulations!

That is an indubitable achievement, I am exceedingly confident that degree was significantly more demanding than my MBA, and just like yourself, I was never a naturally gifted mathematician despite having both parents who were scientists with exceptional ...

Go for Nomos!

agree completely. VERY clean look, goes anywhere (not just tool anywhere) and even comes in other colors.

you don't even have to be an architect to like it. With a degree in CS, the only thing you will be missing is a zero because we know that counting actually starts with zero....

Absolutely!

Nomos is a minimalist option

 By: cazalea : April 6th, 2024-18:40
Mine is even free of pesky colors ...

Another cool one.

 By: amanico : April 6th, 2024-21:24

Nomos is a geeat choice!

Great, even!

;)

Sinn is a good brand, serious watches not flashy, very tough in Stainless or Titanium

 By: cazalea : April 5th, 2024-22:21
Silver or black, Chrono or not. Regular or GMT No nonsense. No tipping and tilting the watch, or squinting to read the time. Good water resistance. More comfortable than an aviation clock! Cazalea PS -- I can assure you that the dollars and cents work out...

Excellent recommendation as well....

Talk about irony going along with your career path ....

Congratulations!

That B&R looks pretty cool but I suggest trying on one to make sure that it seats well on your wrist given the shape. One suggestion, not really pilot related but off the beaten path In that price range I would also look at (used) grand Seiko. Plenty of g...

Tudor

Longines sector dial

 By: TeutonicCarFan : April 5th, 2024-22:47

I love this, great choice

The Sinn and others were good, too. Check out the Longines, Nomoses, and the Tudors.

Under 5k, the following would be my choices:

Omega - I'd pick an aqua terra. You said no diver/yacht theme, but you could consider a different style like the railmaster, 15k gauss, etc. Grand Seiko - Lots of options here, but I like pictures I've seen of the tough quartz SBGX341/SBGX343. Or you coul...

Some additional suggestions…

The Grand Seiko SBGM might give you the complication you want in a very understated and very reliable package: Now if you want something aviation inspired but without a chronograph, finding a vintage Minerva Pythagore Aviation with its Cathedral hands cou...

GS of course

Endlessly-fascinating dials and solid movements, quartz or automatic or Spring Drive ...

Get a ball watch.

Swiss made with America heritage. They got a couple of aviation theme watch and other models with dual time function. You still can buy a Nomos or even a Sinn with $5k budget plus a bit more. 😜

Here's mine

That is one NT UTC that I have not seen fr some time.

No more in their online catalog. But the is one of the most robust watch under 2k budget many years back. Looks good even today!

Congratulations! great milestone on a journey.

I'd go for a watch that will not only represent quality, but also from good house, preferably not from one of the large groups , with a special aspect, and something to be kept in the family.. At your budget, I'd search: - Grand Seiko high-beat GMT, preow...

I would go vintage
