AP 15202 vs Vacheron Overseas

 By: Cozmopak : May 8th, 2023-22:18
To many, the integrated steels sports watch arena is overcrowded, and the debate about which is the best has grown tiresome. I know it has for me, and yet I continue to be attracted to this genre of watches. I've loved braceleted watches since before the ...

For me it's easily VC.

 By: jp884 : May 8th, 2023-22:23
because I got tired of the AP BS, I have long written off that manufacturer.

I agree....

 By: InHavenPro : May 8th, 2023-22:26
But if you really want a specific piece there's always the used marketplace....

:)

 By: Cozmopak : May 8th, 2023-22:33
This is another reason why the VC is attractive. Can be had for retail, and even slightly below retail currently.

Yes VC never played that game to my knowledge.

 By: jp884 : May 8th, 2023-22:46
You would have to wait for the hot pieces, but you could get one, just didn't know when. Not this, prove to us you are worthy. That's laughable. it should be the other way around.

Never ever would have imagined the market/industry would become what it has.

Give it time the pendulum will swing again the other way.

 By: jp884 : May 9th, 2023-02:26
And when it does remember those that took care of you and those that didnā€™t.

;))

 By: InHavenPro : May 8th, 2023-22:44
Ditto.

Yup, long before the craze they were pulling off BS like that.

 By: jp884 : May 8th, 2023-22:30
I had ordered (or was put on the list) for a 15202 like 8 years ago from the Vegas and NYC boutiques. They said it would be about a year wait. 2 years go by and I call and they have no record of it. Plenty of excellent choices out there, I certainly don't...

Yeah, that's bad.

 By: Cozmopak : May 8th, 2023-22:31

Whatā€™s wrong

 By: m2 : May 16th, 2023-01:43
You donā€™t want to be told to make a pilgrimage to 48 different AP boutiques to BuiLd A RelATioNhSiop with a salesman before youā€™re allowed to buy a watch? šŸ˜‚

Sounds like a joke and you wait for the punch line..

 By: jp884 : May 16th, 2023-16:18
Only to find out that indeed it is true and that you the customer are the punch line.

For my money and taste....

 By: InHavenPro : May 8th, 2023-22:24
the VC, not that there's anything remotely undesirable about the AP........

Had both!

 By: K-Lo : May 8th, 2023-22:51
Would do VC because movement is more robust! Lacquer blue is awesome but tapeserie dial is nice too! VC wears bigger.. ...

Nice!

 By: Cozmopak : May 8th, 2023-23:28
Did you have the black dial VC?

I had the blue dial, prob my crappy iPhone at the time.

 By: K-Lo : May 8th, 2023-23:34
But the VC def had more heft than the 15202, which was very light, prob due to thinness. The AP fits under a cuff well, not so much the AP. The 15202 had a JLC movement from 1972 (not the 16202), which didnā€™t change much. My actual crown came outā€¦ If you ...

Yes! Sent to AP Clearwater after thatā€¦

 By: K-Lo : May 8th, 2023-23:45
But maybe I just had a bad movement, others have diff experience.. ...

Wow!!

 By: Cozmopak : May 8th, 2023-23:49
Oops!

When it comes to integrated bracelets I seem to prefer real (distinct) center links.

 By: Steve E : May 8th, 2023-22:53
I don't care too much for the way the VC links dovetail. The AP has a more attractive bracelet in my opinion. Another great integration is obviously the Nautilus bracelet. And there are some very nice bracelet integrations to be found on some Ingenieurs. ...

Great perspective!

Thank you

I will always go for stealth cool over bling cool.

My take on this segment:

 By: quattro98 : May 8th, 2023-23:50
I like wearing waterproof watches with seconds and date, so Iā€™ve been interested in these for a long time. The VC Overseas 3 was released with a robust movement sized for the case. The current APRO 15500 has received a larger movement as well. I have no e...

Thank you for your insights!

The 50m of WR on the Jumbo definitely gives me pause. I have also been curious about the Czapek Antarctique line.

VCAP almost always. And even more so now AP has started

 By: ChetBaker : May 9th, 2023-05:33
fitting their entire 15550 line with an outsourced movement. I hate it when companies do that. Love the Chopard AE suggestion in this thread.

My favorite integrated bracelet sports watch is...

...the Santos. ...

Had many 15202 before the 40th anniversary

 By: piccolochimico (aka dsgalaxy1) : May 9th, 2023-06:47
Now I'm in complete awe with the Finissimo. The bracelet has no great design like the overseas, but it wears like a feather, especially if you choose the titanium, which is 30m WR only (steel is 100m WR). There are many worthy alternatives to the hyperinf...

Alternatives include...

 By: patrick_y : May 9th, 2023-09:06
The Patek Philippe Nautilus which is a little more comfortable than both the VC and the AP. And the Chopard Alpine Eagle as well as the Genta-designed Bulgari Octo Finissimo.

Have both

AP are just different.

AP for sure

 By: m2 : May 9th, 2023-15:48
But consider some of the vintage references, I know you're into vintage! They look great with some patina. I have a Royal Oak from the early 2000s with a moonphase that I like, but some parts are very half assed. IE the cutout for the date...I hate that i...

Used to own the Overseas in black 4500V.

 By: Sfwatchlover : May 15th, 2023-09:35
If I had bought the timegrapher sooner, I might still keep this watch. Let me explain. I always like setting accurate time and tracking the timing performance. There were 2 things that annoyed me: (1) the movement did not hack; (2) when pushing back the c...

Great post! šŸ‘ Good points. I remember my Overseas Gen II Chrono doing the same when pushing the crown in.

 By: Andy_Mac : May 15th, 2023-18:47
ā€¦and the date window jars a bit too. Lovely blue dial though.

Thanks Andy for sharing your experience!
