Paris 2016: Renault wows with Trezor

As we enter into the era of electric and autonomous cars, it is no surprise that we now constantly see manufacturers bringing forth their visions of the future. Earlier this year, Citroen gave us its funky interpretation in the form of the DS E-tense. And now Renault too has brought along a more swanky concept. Meet the Trezor!

The way in which the canopy opens is fighter jet-inspired. And it also does kind of looks like the Aero-X concept, doesn't it? Either way, the general consensus is that it looks good. However, do not just assume that it is just a fancy paperweight. Thanks to its heavy involvement in Formula E and electric road cars, Renault has build a concept car that actually works. All the clever electric wizardry will whizz it to 100kph in less than 4 seconds.

What will surprise many is that the car is made primarily out of wood. The only car manufacturer I can remember that is still using wood is Morgan Motor Company. And it is also pretty lightweight. Which explains the brisk acceleration. Renault worked with Keim and applied their know-hows, from making ultra-lightweight bicycles with wood frames, into making the Trezor.

In a blend of advanced technology and old-fashioned, I feel that Renault has got the balance bang on point. And like all concepts, this is a mere taster of the direction the brand is heading towards. But unlike some concepts, the Trezor was in the works for a good 16 months. Hence, I say to the French outfit, job well done! Now get on and make your cars more exciting!
