Twelfth L.U.C Chopard Classic Weekend Rally in Moscow
On Sunday, June 1st This year 70 old-timers followed the itinerary from TSUM to Barvikha Luxury Village. The oldest contenders were two vehicles manufactured in 1914: Renault EF and Locomobile Model 48.
Since 2003, the L.U.C Chopard Classic Weekend Rally has taken place in Moscow with the support of Chopard. On the eve of the rally Chopard’s co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele traditionally arrives in Moscow to take part in the event. This year, just before the start of the rally, the inauguration of a new Chopard boutique took place on the first floor of TSUM in the presence of Karl Scheufele, his wife Karin and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele.
The 2014 rally gathered an unprecedented number of automobiles, all unique due to their technical and historical features. An elaborate decoded 3-hour itinerary was created for the contestants. Windless sunny weather favored the crews, but heavy Moscow traffic proved to be a serious obstacle, and what turned out to be quite the challenge for the main prize – L.U.Chopard chronometers – resulted in being truly spectacular for its audience.
The guests greeted the arriving teams at the finish in Barvikha Luxury Village together with the host of the event – TV presenter Andrey Malakhov. While the jury calculated the results keeping the participants tense yet optimistic, the scene was taken over by the Academic singing and dancing ensemble of the Russian Army. Right after the concert Karl-Friedrich Scheufele was called up on stage to announce the results of the rally in two categories: the “Veteran” (for the automobiles manufactured before 1941) and the “Absolut” (for the ones produced from 1941 to1974) nominations. The winners were awarded with high-precision L.U.Chopard chronometers. At the end of the ceremony David Desseaux, chef of the A.V.E.N.U.E. restaurant, surprised the guests with an unusual pie with an image of a new timepiece- the L.U.C 1963 Chronograph.
