A Summer Festival of Fifty Fathoms pics

A cruel observation: This is a pity that these watches are not water resistant anymore, because it is really frustrating that these Beauties can't afford some water activities! Well, not all of them, because I also wore the FF 50th Anniversary, which is t...

Thanks for this FF review

Nice collection of FF! I really like your vintage FF Milspec with the "brown" bezel. Like you said, I also see the saphire bezel of the new FF of a great design/material. Pascal

There is such a variety of FFs, Pascal

 By: amanico : September 27th, 2009-23:45
That it is impossible for me to have a favorite among them... I would even say that FFs are very dangerous. Once you tasted one, you want to have more, and the list of the desirable FFs may be long! Best, and see you soon. Nicolas

amazing and stunning!

Wow Nicolas, I am totaly flabbergasted!!! This is one of the most beautiful collection of vintage Blancpains I have ever seen!! RESPECT!! Your collection shows us that the dive watches from Blancpain are by far the most impressive watches ever built!! I a...

I share your enthusiasm on the FFs, Claude.

 By: amanico : September 27th, 2009-23:53
Welcome here, firstly! Everybody here knows my love and passion for the FFs, but I wouldn't say that they are by far, the most impressive watches ever built. If you have a look at some Vintage Panerai, lie the 4 lines 6152 or the small Egiziano, you will ...

many thanks, Nicolas,

for your response but the pleasure is truly on my side!! I am collecting watches since the early 90's, sometimes less sometimes more intensively, that depends on my mood and on the insert of my wallet of course ;-) It is now exactly one year that I hold, ...

I really love your comparison with Art, Claude

 By: amanico : September 28th, 2009-07:56
I totally agree with you on that. Watches are exactly the same. They speak to you, or they don't, and it is really to each his own. Don't get me wrong when I say that the FFs are not the most impressive watches. I do love them a lot, if not, I wouldn't ma...

I started my collection with a Bund and a 1000 Feet Aqualung and I am searching for watches like you own, while you are looking for 'mine' !! Crazy isn't it? Nicolas, please don't worry, I not get you wrong with your post about the FF's 'not the most impr...

Please don't change nothing, Claude.

 By: amanico : September 28th, 2009-12:51
Your passion is so refreshing! As for the FFs you own, I have to confess that I sold my Bunde ( to fund the Tornek Rayville ). I don't regret having added the TR 900, I regret to have sold my Bunde, even if it is in a very nice home. As for the 1 000 Feet...

Nicolas, now you really tickled my deepest

and most honest "must have" collector gen! How could you? My friend, I thought that this picture, showing your Tornek, was a photomontage and same fake like the boobs of the nightclub girl from my past dreams! Is your TR realy real?? Do you know that this...

No, Claude

 By: amanico : September 28th, 2009-21:18
My TR 900 is not a fake... And I wear it right now, while typing these few lines. Well, I'm sure that your wife is exquisite, but I am already married, and as a good collector I am, I never double the complications. Did you get your 2d Bunde from a dealer...

Yes Nicolas, it comes from the city of love!

I knew that I had to be fast because this was an unique opportunity to get an Bunde with box and papers Here is a picture from my 'first' Bunde, 100% original and in perfect condition. Hope you like it? Will try the MAC UsersPhoto Uploader, hope it works....

I also used one over the last days while staring at your beauties, because I didn't want to dirty my keyboard, hehehe! ;-) Now here is my 1000ft Aqua Lung , I guess Lloyd Bridges wore the same on the cover of the 1962 Skin Diver magazine, what do you thin...

Damn, Claude!!! This 1000 Feet is here, right in front of me, but I can't put it on my wrist. Huge congrats on the Bunde. This is a great catch, but now, you will have to complete it with a Military Milspec... Very nice Duo, Claude. Best, Nicolas

Military Milspec mmmmmmmmmmmmmhhh

Yes of course, I have sleepless nights because I can't find one!! If you would ask me what I would prefer rather, a Swiss vintage Milspec on my wrist or a French virgin model in my arms, I would surely choose the swiss version, well knowing that the Frenc...

This is because I spent a lot of time to admire these Vintage FFs that I learnt and began to really appreciate the Anniversary, and the nice work made on this watch. In terms of finish, of quality, there is no possible comparison between this modern piece...

I also.....

You mean an ORGY :)...

 By: kkhazen : September 27th, 2009-15:00
... looks like you've been seriously bite by the vintage diver watches bug ( among others )... ... I was sure i wouldn't find my favourite FF, but a great great post of the 1st real diver watch ( ... not water resistant?? ) Karim

What would be Life without Orgy, from time to time???

 By: amanico : September 28th, 2009-02:56
If I'm seriously bitten by the Vintage Diver Watch Bug, my friend??? Naaaah, not at all! How can you resist in front of such Beauties? I think this is the biggest Thema of my Collection, and I'm close to end it, which is a big pride. The First Real Diving...

But how come they are not waterproof??

 By: kkhazen : September 28th, 2009-05:10
... thats very strange. Pardon my amateurism, i am really not an expert in those vintage watches. Wonder also how we can recognize those that have a value from those that don't. Feels like its exclusivly reserved for a certain category of watch lovers... ...

Because

 By: amanico : September 28th, 2009-05:42
The seals are not efficient anymore, the plexy may be a bit weak, and like on ALL the Vintages, it is more prudent to not have water activities with them. If you dive into the FF Vintage World, you will notice that a lot are fakes, and that the good ones ...

What about the DePollier?

 By: BDLJ : September 28th, 2009-18:50
I'd say that was the first watch developed for naval and water use?

Damn, Ben, you will never cease to amaze me...

A pic of this watch? Best, Nicolas

Will send to your email.

...usual problems uploading. Interesting watch, I think the Patent for the case and crown mechanism is from 1917...

Thanks, Ben...I received them.

 By: amanico : September 29th, 2009-06:01

Very nice collection!

 By: tahoeblue : September 27th, 2009-19:31
And I have to say that the Anniv FF is my favorite sport watch of any, and only with the fabulous sapphire bezel in a perfectly sized case.

The 50th Anniversary is not a watch we often speak about, indeed.

 By: amanico : September 28th, 2009-03:02
It was a bit the purpose of this topic, to associate it with these gorgeous Vintage. Better finished, water resistant, it can be used in a lot of situations, with a lot of pride. But I won't see it like a rugged tool watch ,as the Vintage were... Anyway, ...

Another excellent post..

 By: BDLJ : September 27th, 2009-21:33
..where are the caseback photos to go with the dials? That TR is still my faovurite. You need to get at least one of these, (just one!) 100% checked and waterproofed, they deserve it

That's a brilliant idea, Ben

 By: amanico : September 28th, 2009-03:05
To manage to get at least one 100 % Water Resistant! I just have to be 100% confident on the water resistance, as the spare parts are almost impossible to find, in case of problem. But I would like a lot to have some water activities with! As for the case...

Just being able to go to the beach in one....

 By: BDLJ : September 28th, 2009-18:56
...would be fantastic. A new crystal seal, a new crown seal, a new caseback o-ring (like what Graham was doing with his SM300) a water test....and the beach would be calling! I know you posted the casebacks in other threads, so that was the reason to want...

Will do, Ben
