NUIT BLANCHE NEW YORK (NBNY) PRESENTED MARCO BRAMBILLA'S CREATION

(MEGAPLEX)

AN IMMERSIVE 3D SPECTACLE ACCOMPANIED BY CURATED LIVE SCORE

AT THE BASILICA OF ST. PATRICK'S OLD CATHEDRAL ON MAY 3RD, 2013 AS PART OF

IDEAS CITY

Joining the artist Marco Brambilla were Audemars Piguet (North America) Inc. CEO Xavier Nolot and V.P. of Sale & Marketing Frederick Martel, True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård, and DJ Mia Moretti.

As part of New Museum's IDEAS City festival, NBNY presented the last film in Marco Brambilla's "Megaplex Trilogy" -- a multiple-year project collaging moving images to create 3D videos of extraordinary detail, depth and spectacle. In Creation 3D, Brambilla remixes hundreds of clips to simultaneously satirize and celebrate film imagery through the language of cinema. The resulting epic illustrates human history from the Big Bang to scenes of apocalyptic destruction in an endlessly repeating cycle.

The 3D installation in the Basilica of St Patrick's Old Cathedral builds on a previous collaboration in 2011, with the screening of the first film in the trilogy, "Civilization 3D," during the inaugural Festival of Ideas for the New City. For the 2013 installation at IDEAS CITY, NBNY created an immersive environment that further integrated the piece within this unique setting and context.

To enhance the extraordinary transformation of the Basilica, musicians brought the moving images to life through a stirring "live score" featuring interpretations of Prokofiev's Cinderella Waltz. Contemporary composers, sound artists and choirs were given the freedom to re-interpret the Cinderella Waltz while maintaining the tension and satirical quality of the visual installation. At key moments, musicians performed throughout the Basilica, creating an immersive, echoing sound-scape.
