Panerai 2014 Collection: Radiomir 1940 Marina Militare PAM587 from Watches & Wonders in HK

By: amanico : September 27th, 2014-07:06
I will make it short, this is a BOMB. This is THE watch I was looking for, from Panerai. First the case, which is sublime ( 47 mm ). Big? Well, not for every wrist, but this is a Panerai, and a Panerai, by essence, is a big Watch. Then the dial, sober, cl...

to be seen in real

By: patrickh : September 27th, 2014-07:41
to have a solid personal idea,IMHO. I also preferred either a solid case back or a 3 days PR as for the calibre 3001 (but without sub-second). Maybe the next model in 2015 ;-)). Also waiting for a small Egiziano!!! One day, who knows??? Thanks for sharing...

I went after the 622....

By: sergio : September 27th, 2014-09:01
the 6152 "look alike" connotations. The Marina Militare it's just too much to resist :-) I'm already in the process of trying to..switch, even though they'll make only 60 x 622 and 1000 of this one hahahahaha '

I'll be physically in Florence, 10 days from now..

By: sergio : September 27th, 2014-09:12
and I'll push like a runaway freight train to get me one of these hahahaha I'll keep you posted.. :D

Good year indeed..

By: ocwatching : September 27th, 2014-13:31
590 for daily and now this!?!calling boutique as I type Merci my friend..Hope all is well! Will this finally bring you back to the paneristi fold?

Love everything about it...except missing a date between 4 and 5 o'clock

By: vitalsigns : September 27th, 2014-15:42
Just kidding!!! The piece is simple, pure and dare I say elegant yet masculine but would it be better and more wearable in 44mm? The case almost looks "plump" to me Overall a great piece, though Cheers, John

Awesome…

By: cesare1976 : September 27th, 2014-15:59
I believe that panerai did a goal with this one.....it's big , but who cares, my 372 has the same size hehehe… Do you have an idea of the price?! Regards

Surprised they got the MM back on the dial.

By: Nicko16 : September 27th, 2014-16:58
I agree a solid caseback would be better. As for the whole "Limited" thing, these days nothing is truly limited with Panerai :)

Same surprise here. But I am very happy to see this one coming.

By: amanico : September 27th, 2014-23:10
My former " love at first sight " was this one: PAM 399 ( 2012 ) I much prefer this new one! As for Limited... Well, you know my feeliing as well. ;) Best, Nicolas ...

OMG! Bomb is right!!!

By: travelller : September 27th, 2014-18:31
This is a must-have for me & the MM which you dislike is what makes it "da bomb" for me - that and of course, finally, a [non-Russian-Risti] 1940 with a 3-6-9-12 dial!!! Woo-hoo!!!

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the MM, I am just not sure ....

By: amanico : September 27th, 2014-22:45
Panerai got the authorization to use this name. Remember the PAM 339 mess? My Favourite MM is a vintage one, then the 5218 202/ A , then the 36. This one could well be my second Fav in the Richemont era. Best, Nicolas

Oh yes, I remember...

By: travelller : September 28th, 2014-03:51
...which is one of the [less important] reasons I got my 217, thinking there would be no more MMs, ever... :-/ At first I was a bit miffed, but the fact that it's limited to 1000, not to mention one of the best uses of the 1940 so far, put a grin on my fa...

Excited about this one too, Nico

By: Mr.Gatsby : September 27th, 2014-22:18
I second your preferences (solid caseback, no MM text...etc). The hands however look more 'pencil-like' and feels different to those on a PAM 372. If truly different this would be a plus point to me. Found the hands on the PAM 372 to not be very much the ...

Aaah, Mr Gatsby, I knew this one would please you, my friend.

By: amanico : September 27th, 2014-23:14
Let's see it in the real. It may be convincing enough to make me ( us? ) make the plunge? Good to read you again, my friend! Best, Nicolas

Waouuuuuh

By: Subco : September 27th, 2014-23:45
Thanks for the news. And what such a news!!! Except the "Marina Militare" that i'd rather love in white color, it looks to be an wonderfull piece. Now i keep waiting for another new in 44mm... ;)

Merci, mon ami.

By: amanico : September 28th, 2014-00:08
Here, as it is an historical piece, I am not disturbed by the size, I must say. 47 mm is in the Panerai DNA. I share your pleasure! Best, Nicolas

Really love it! Only 1 thing is a pity

By: DavidV : September 28th, 2014-01:49
the fact that they make it a LE again. It's the pam i was looking for, but will be not easy to get if it's a LE of 1000ex and i'm afraid there will be again a lot of flipping afterwards... Why do they keep making those LE's Tx for sharing, a good way to s...

Definitely THE watch a lot of purists have been waiting for, but...

By: Kamy : September 28th, 2014-02:22
... as it has been mentioned repeatedly, it's a shame that it's a limited edition. I hate limited editions as I think they only benefit the manufacturers and the flippers. But, putting negativity aside, I think it's a marvelous piece and I would really lo...

Very nice Panerai PAM587 from Watches & Wonders

By: AnthonyTsai : September 28th, 2014-14:22
I'm surprised to see that Panerai has removed its name from the dial!! This is very surprising for me. Some may like this but some may not. Great piece! Cheers, Anthony

No brand, just like the old days

By: Ale (aka Fuciliere) : September 28th, 2014-14:46
All the vintage Marina Militare had no Panerai brand on the dial, the only exception was the four liner 6152-1 with MARINA MILITARE and LUMINOR PANERAI. All the other 6152 and 6152-1 were just Marina Militare, that's where the PAM 587 comes from.

There were some vintage Panerais which had only the MM name on the dial.

By: amanico : September 28th, 2014-22:33
Picture found on the net, I don't know who to credit for. Sorry. And the Cali 3646 didn't have any name on the dial. I wish nobody likes it... I will maybe have a chance to get one... Best, Nicolas ...

PAM 587 additional pictures.

By: amanico : September 29th, 2014-01:30
Focus on the dial: Profile of the case: Very much my taste, I must say! Best, Nicolas ...

Seems to sit quite a bit higher than the 572...

By: Kamy : September 29th, 2014-06:10
... but then again, this is an entirely different beast! Thanks for the updated pictures Nicolas. Cheers, Kamy

The only time I've seen those hands...

By: travelller : September 29th, 2014-15:38
...was on a 6152/1 MM... ! Can anyone comment on the history behind these hands type? I'm of course referring to the "pointiness" ... most noticable in the minutes hand but I think even the hour hand is pointer than day, the 372's...

Well...

By: i_am_Sam : September 30th, 2014-07:19
This definitely give me a great excitement! Although this is not in my priority list, but I'm definitely open to add this piece in my collection one day Best, Sam

Finally!!

By: i_am_Sam : September 30th, 2014-06:53
a Radiomir 1940 base! + MM dial! But the fact that it is a limited edition , I know will make it hard to get… Perhaps this is something for you to finally make a come back to Panerai? What do you think about the BlackSeal & Daylight set? Best, Sam

I like both, the set and the MM 1940.

By: amanico : September 30th, 2014-07:05
If I had to choose only one, I tjink I would go for the MM. I am so pleased to see the 1940 in SS without a crazy price! Let's say that I was expecting this 1940 in this configuration ( without the MM, bu=y the way, but it is not a big issue ) for such a ...

I agree!

By: i_am_Sam : September 30th, 2014-07:16
Plus that I love the shaper of the hands they use for this one The PreV set is a very nice surprise for me as well… A remake of the mythical 5218/218/A … The font, the lack of the L SWISS L , made it so much nicer too! I can't wait to see them in metal Be...

nice surprise releases...

By: ocwatching : September 30th, 2014-10:47
the MM and the 1940 is a touch.. with the box set..I wonder what the real collectors think of the re-releases...

Definitely yes...

By: Ale (aka Fuciliere) : October 6th, 2014-03:02
...6152/1 was made either with or without crown guard, I was only saying that if it has the crown guard it has to be 6152/1 and not 6152 :-)

Grail-city!!!

By: travelller : October 6th, 2014-16:46
Well it's pretty clear where OP got the idea for the pointy hands... :)

this is almost perfect Nich!

By: Mech : November 2nd, 2014-21:40
I haven't looked at pams for a while, since none of their new watches excite me much, but this is definitely one that caught my attention. Superb Mech.
