New watch arrived yesterday!

By: Watchcph : July 3rd, 2020-07:56
As some of you already know, this is the Kari Voutilainen Vingt-8. The case is white gold and the dial features 3 different guilloche patterns. The blue parts are grand feu enameled and simply stunning to look at. It has a kind of optical illusion which i...

Talk about robust, that balance bridge looks truly bombproof! I've admired that aspect of this movement for a long time.

Also, your comment about the inconsistency of the human touch is, to me, the most important point you make. How can one even put a price on this level of individual care these days? I'm so glad that you, who obviously appreciates this rare and special lev...

Thank you very much for your comment.

Yes, the balance bridge is sort of the crown of the movement. The polish looks flawless right there πŸ˜‰ I have just read the book on Kari that comes with the watch. It gives a good insight to his philosophy on watchmaking, manufacturing and his thoughts on ...

STUNNING!!

I was talking to Cellini about an Optical Illusion not that long ago! You have an absolute Master Piece there - WOW! Wear it in the best of health and a HUGE congratulations. That's really, truly something very special.

Oh great! Well, I can only recommend you to look further into this!

The time and skills needed to make these dials, puts them second to none in my book πŸ˜€ Sorry for the mediocre photo quality and all the armhair πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ ...

Oh man, once you see them...

By: Watchcph : July 3rd, 2020-11:58
It's hard to let it go πŸ˜‰ He can make a variety of different optical illusion dials. I like this "simple" sphere in all it's glory. It's fascinating to learn about the process. If you like to listen to podcasts, I would recommend an episode on "Keeping tim...

Superb choice

Always very fond of his guilloche work and colour combinations. Enjoy!

Yeah, I think it goes very well together.

While the techniques used to make it are old. The look is modern but still time less.

Superb. Congratulations.

I’m curious as to how much back and forth occurred before you decided the final design. Or had you seen something similar and that served as a template. I look forward to seeing more of this one.

Well, I guess I was lucky to get one, not long after I started seriously looking into getting one.

This watch was actually delivered in january but purchased by me in early april and I was not involved in the process, but the watch I had enquired with Kari was similar: white gold or platinum + blue enamel guilloche dial. When I saw this for sale, I jum...

Hey that is a fantastic catch my friend-

Nice to see it live yesterday at the GTG-I am sure that being a collector will never be the same after this-WhatThese really surprised me was the heft of the watch, as it feels like platinum-these main plates are the main reason for that, and I can unders...

Hey! Yes, it was great to be able to share it with you!

By: Watchcph : July 3rd, 2020-14:02
Yes, I think you are right concerning the collecting aspect. I don't know where to go from here, as this really is among the absolute best and most interesting for me, but right now it does not matter much πŸ˜‰ for me it will probably be in the same directio...

Stunning! Congratulations.

It is somewhat rare to have a watch with such quality in both the dial and the movement. Kari masters both.

Huge congrats, excellent choice, really superb

What’s not to like in this one. Wonderful combo for the dial pattern (makes me think of Vassarelli, only Kari can do that) and the dark gold finish of the movement πŸ‘πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ. Yes I confirm visiting Kari in MΓ΄tiers is a must, a kind of mandatory pilgrimage. You ...

Cool! Thank you so much for your comments!

By: Watchcph : July 4th, 2020-05:27
You are right, the pattern looks very much like some of the Vasarely work. I must remember to ask Kari πŸ˜€ I think I will order one of the Loupe Systems, as I really enjoy looking at all the finishing details. Do you recommend the 10x or the 6x?

Actually it depends...

By: Mike H : July 4th, 2020-07:33
...on how much you want to enlarge ! Sorry to say but only you have the answer: if you want to have a nice enlarged overall view of the movement or dial the 6x is better adapted. If you want to be able to see all possible details like with a microscope (a...

OK, cool. My first thought was to go for the 10x as well.

Being able to really dig into the finer details attracts me πŸ˜‰ nice to hear your feedback. Much appriciated! πŸ‘ Do you own a Voutilainen as well, if I may ask? I would love to see others πŸ˜€πŸ»

I used to but I had to let it go with huge regrets

By: Mike H : July 4th, 2020-16:18
Hereafter few pics of my former beloved Twenty-8... We spent hours together with Kari to select each and single detail of this dial which is actually a piece unique when you know what we made special... I still often think of it 😒 ...

Oh, sorry to hear that you had to let it go.

By: Watchcph : July 4th, 2020-23:47
It really is beautiful! I see it's the first version of the 28 🀩You have excellent taste πŸ˜‰ I see you have pips with every hour marker?! The opportunity to have something unique like this is a big attraction when you deal with smaller indies πŸ‘ Thanks for s...

Did you notice that the additional pinhead / nails every 5 minutes instead of the usual only 4 used on the minute track are actually smaller

By: Mike H : July 5th, 2020-06:41
I gave a hard time to Kari to do these with smaller size than the usual 4 at 12/3/6/9 position . Also the inner part of the hand rings are indeed polished (well spotted)... Another small detail few would notice (if any) is the way the 12 segments of the i...

More than you ever wanted to know about our loupes... ;)

By: a.lber.to : July 4th, 2020-08:47
As a watch collector, if you are going to only have one of our loupes, then by all means that should be the Model 01 6x loupe. It is the one I designed for myself, as a collector, when I could not find it on the market. The 6x is unique in that it will gi...
