And still, you will have some money to fund a Patek WT! ;)

I love it!

I love how the blue changes colors based on the lighting! Was this at the Geneva salon?

In case of unlimited funds (LoLL).. My picks would be: :))

.. Duometre a QL in WG.. as it is still my dream watch, but possibly would wait until SIHH - infos are here ( maybe in 40,5 mm ?) - then the Duometre a Chronographe ( RG ?) - and finally the Duometre UTT And in fact exactly do, what you suggested: Patek W...

5204 10/10 Times

By: Myopiccoog : January 14th, 2014-10:31
If those were my only choices. I have been hearing bad feedback from AD on the new 5270 Dial. I love the blue but the pregnant tach at 6 is armature.

What if they made a blue 5204? =)

By: nycbrose : January 14th, 2014-10:39
I think most people that choose blue 5270 love the color, while 5204 maybe for "long term value"? Maybe if they made a blue 5204, then everyone will choose that one...=D

Question

By: patekben : January 14th, 2014-11:40
5204P is an application piece with a long wait time. I am surprised your AD can just offer you one?

That is what they tell you

By: Myopiccoog : January 14th, 2014-11:42
the 5204 is soft because of it's price point. I was offered one back in October and could have had it the next week

Hey nycbrose! If my AD showed me both......

By: Sandgroper : January 14th, 2014-12:08
unless he or she (the AD!:)) would offer one, I mean offer like "give me one), I would choose the blue dial, although the "cream/white" dial watch is a chronograph a rattrapante, I prefer the hands on the blue dial, that's me;) Now, because both of them a...

It depends whose money...

If I should pay with my own, the blue one. If somebody would like to buy a watch for me, the the white one. Best, Kari

How about 5004P AND 5970G?

By: patekova : January 14th, 2014-15:28
I realize my post is not exactly responsive to your interesting question, but personally I prefer 5004P to 5204P and I prefer 5970G to 5270G. The combined price of a pre-owned 5004P AND 5970G is not too far off the price of a 5204P. Best, patekova

+1

Can't really see how the two pictured can be compared... They're both amazing watches but one is obviously far more expensive and with an added feature that adds substantially to the movement. Having said that, based on pure aesthetics I'd take the blue 5...

Interesting for most people it boiled down to blue or round

By: MTF : January 14th, 2014-21:29
nycbrose, Interesting that for most responders, the issue boiled down to either the dial colour or the pusher shape. All that R&D and engineering angst and finally, people go with their heart. In that case, I choose the "white" one ;) The additional s...

Yes!

By: nycbrose : January 15th, 2014-01:41
That's what makes the responses so interesting. So the perfect piece for Patek to make would be a blue dial 5204P =)

AD availability

By: jon_jon : January 14th, 2014-21:30
Eventually the new model blue dial 5270G will make it to a lot of ADs. However it is going to be rare to see a 5204P at an AD display, unless someone cancelled on an order as it is a true application piece. If money was not an issue, the 5204P for sure. B...

None of them. Buy a ticket to Geneva instead

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 15th, 2014-12:12
If your AD has no buyer so far for them put them on hold, fly to Geneva and see if you can get an even better deal, ehermmm: a more complicated Patek in the Patek Salon. If you think that is a bit too much hustle: the 5204, of course. Best Moritz

Sign of the times

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 16th, 2014-05:49
To me it appears times are a bit "difficult" again for high end pieces. Hence the offer from your AD, hence the alterations of the 5270, the availability in AD's windows ... . I might be wrong but I would try to get the 5208, 5950, 5951 in the Salon. Ther...

Expensive, or a bargain if you go into details?!

By: small-luxury-world : January 18th, 2014-02:42
Yes, the price is significant higher but you also get a lot more if you are not only counting complications. You already mentioned the smaller size. Yes. Both movement represent a different approach of watchmaking. One is high-level serial production and ...

5951 features also a remontage and german silver movement + ...

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 18th, 2014-06:04
... it is a single monopusher chronograph, which is very understated. And Patek is the overlord of understatement. As the 5951 movement is based on the original 5959 movement it is very likely that it is also treated as such. The remontage, twice assembly...

Moritz you forgot to mention something ...

By: small-luxury-world : January 19th, 2014-12:16
"Lange and Soehne is doing it with all their movements" Yes, but most of them are much bigger and that helps a lot, to make things easier. Especially if we talk about 5950, 5951 or 5959, there we see a total different approach of very classical (Swiss) wa...

I know that comparison

By: COUNT DE MONET : January 20th, 2014-10:52
Hi Oliver, I know that one cuts corners, sometimes. You are absolutely right to mention the size: Patek movements are always slim, which is traditional. Have a great time at the SIHH. Moritz

Not that easy?

By: Conkers : January 15th, 2014-16:15
I don't think it is quite that easy is it? You may well be able to see a fantastic array of rare pieces, but can you actually walk out with them?

If your dealer actually showed you both.....

By: daytonaman799 : January 20th, 2014-05:05
5204 hands down. If you could afford it I would take the split seconds. It's more than just the dial color. It's the entire movement of the watch with that chrono pusher on the crown. The only thing left after that would be a minute repeater. I would take...
