Port Royal, Captain: so close, so different

Feb 13, 2013,14:46 PM

The Port Royal is only 3 years older than the Captain and they are both Zenith Chronometers. Two brothers in arm.

However, they have so many differences....

On your opinion, did the younger brother succeed in usurping the elder?

What a dial! And what a case, too! Your Chronometric quest impresses me a lot. Best, Nicolas.

You are correct, Nicolas

"The famous 135" , as it was written... "The famous 135" , which enabled Zenith to win their many series of victories in the official chronometry contest at the Neuchatel Observatory. ...

These ads were great! And bravo for the watch, too.

Hi elder brother is a piece of art and younger brother is just science ......

Port Royal - Very special

Congrats - I prefer the Port Royal by far. The Cal 135 is obviously way superior, many say one of the best movements (hand wind) ever built (together with Pesuex 260, Omega 30T2RG etc.). Also the Port Royal's dial design is just incredible. Especially in ...

since Zenith seems to be the last big brand without hyper inflated prices ...

I feel pretty comfortable that Zenith would not ask euro 12 tot 15 K ;-) I think the 5011K was more expensive to make ( less movements made so price per unit will be more) and last year they sold the TYPE 20 with that movement for 9K. This included a tota...

agree

Zenith might be the exception - I still think most of the other big brands will ask for more. The rumours that Zenith re-issues some cal 135 watches is around for a while now, isn't it?

The Port Royal ...

Has a great movement, tied to a beautiful dial. Thanks for sharing, Nilo

Wow. Marv, your posts are always an education.

Two watches I know next to nothing about. Both appealing to me in their own ways. The Port Royal certainly has a very unique and distinctive dial. One that just jumps out and grabs your eyes. However, the Captain's dial is a little more subtle, but the mo...

Of those two, I'll pick the Port Royal

Huge congrats to a dream pair! :) Q? Are both in steel? If so, a even bigger congratulation! As you know I have started down this road... A simpler brother saying hello! Best, my friend Blomman PS. Please bring these next time we meet! And since I know yo...

There is no Ref in- or outside on the case back. But, yes - it is a screwback case and according to movement/case number late 50's early 60's (I have not found any good ref on numbers for Zenith). Size is about 36mm lug to lug 46,5mm. It looks to be exact...

looks the same to me also !!
