Extremely keen observations

I thank you Magnus for some very keen observations and am enthused by your optimism.
However much of what I am seeing at Zenith is so very typical of a large French conglomerate. I recognise this having worked for French banks in many countries for over 2 decades.
I recognise the stereotypical brand marketing employed at Zenith to the point that I can identify the PR firm they employ as being the same one as the one used at the French banks I worked for. I do not criticise the CEO choice, and indeed I possessed watches from both the. Nataf and Dufour terms of office. My beef is with purely with the LVMH mentality of trying to maximise ROE instead of focusing on producing the absolute best watches they can, and thus will now focus my collection on those brands that aim to produce the absolute best watches possible. And my point on innovation was made regardless of who was at the helm. Nataf and Dufour watches and even pre Nataf watches are essentially exactly the same save the casing. Consistency is good, but complacency is not.

Regardless, I will continue to follow the developments with a keen eye, but pray that one day, Zenith will release a simple three hand, hand wound watch with an in house movement finished to a breathtaking degree.

In the meantime, I also pray that they will ditch the ridiculous "key values" marketing garbage of "Daring, Authenticity, Pleasure". When I read what was said by the new CEO in the recent press release, I know immediately that the press release is not his words but the words of the PR firm. Zenith is heading to become a pure marketing company much like Tag Heuer, Hublot, and IWC.

So I am less optimistic.

Warmest,

Dean

that is: SW300 is history at Zenith! A most controversial move for Zenith (discussions here and here ) seems to be revoked . If that is true - what a start for new CEO Aldo Magada ! Cheers, Magnus This message has been edited by Ornatus-Mundi on 2014-09-1...

They are and will be: 'Extra Special' ;-) [nt]

Seems like a bit of a mess up. It's all too late for me, I have turned my back on modern Zenith for their complete lack of direction, innovation, and cohesion. I recently sold all my 5 Zenith pieces. I have absolutely no faith in a JCB puppet. Dean

Very happy to read you here again dear Dean....

you mentioned a core issue (not only with Zenith) in your post: "complete lack of direction, innovation, and cohesion" I share to some extend your sentiment. There was a lot of (abrupt) change, revolution, lack of consistency in the last decade at Zenith....

Extremely keen observations

Wow...

Will this signal the demise of this particular reference and also the captain models that are also fitted with the sellita? Or will production continue and offering the same watch but with an elite movement and a price revision?

+1 . . .

. . . and issued none too soon, as well . . .

That's a quick 180!

Although the reputation hit amongst collectors is not 100% reversible, I didn't see the demand to ramp up production of three-hand Zenith watches either. So this is a good move, on the balance. Yesterday I saw a Pilot Extra Special in the display of an AD...

Really Happy to Hear that...

Wasn't a fan and didn't do the brand any justice, if only now they can focus on their great heritage in the 60s and 70s and take it forward. S

Great news !

In any case, I'd still wait and get the Elite driven model. What can I say .... Purist at heart !
