Watch of the Week

Wristcan

This was a theme with a lot of unexpected cool entries. When I got a message from Mike about judging for ana digi, I confidently responded in the affirmative thinking it would be a cake walk. I mean, c’mon, how many folks are going to really participate in such a theme? It wasn’t exactly “show me your best dive watch”. It’s relatively niche if one goes by what people post here on a daily basis. Turns out I was wrong and quite glad that I was because I got to see a concentration of pieces on a theme that has piqued my interest in the past year or so.

So apart from coming up with best watch of the week and just posting runners up based on feel, I thought why not rank them based on my favorite pieces and pick winners from there.

The watch of the week will be a wildcard for sure. The first runner up will come from quartz entries. If ever I decide to get an ana digi, it will most probably be quartz. The second runner up will be, of course, non quartz. Jump hours and such have always fascinated me so I got a big kick out of seeing entries in this category.

Here goes..

The second runner up was a tough one and while I was mesmerized by the Zeitwerk pics of Brandon and MJ23, I had to go Genta. The Genta pics coming from NT931, Brauner and Watchonthewrist made choosing very difficult but in the end, I had to go with Timeout’s entry. The Bulgari Octo Bi Retro literally jumped out at me visually and the side case image was what tilted it in favor of Timeout smile

2nd runner : Timeout’s Bi Retro

Choosing first runner up was an even more difficult to one as all the brands except for one was ably represented.. Breitling, Omega, Citizen and Casio. I was kinda hoping I’d see a Seiko in there somewhere but did not sadly. Now, again, I really had a hard time. KMII’s Breitling pic on what seemed like a Rimowa background resonated with me as it represented travel! However, I had to go with a tie here between Eklektik and NT931 and here’s why.. Among the quartz pieces that I might considering getting, his Ti Breitling aerospace is at the top of my list. As for NT931’s colorful Casio, well, that just put a smile on my face right away when I saw his pic.

First runner up tie : Eklektik’s Breitling Aerospace

First runner up tie : Nt931’s colorful Casioak

As for watch of the week, well, it had to go to an outlier in that the watch itself is not my type but the wear and tear on it just got me. Mary Anny mentioned that the watch had stories to tell and the photography on that eco-drive with orange hands (2nd pic) made me go back to it repeatedly. Even without MA’s write up, the pic would have made me wonder about its life regardless smile

So there you go folks. I had a hard time choosing and that could only mean you guys have great pieces with matching great pics. I’d like to thank Mike and all the contributors for making this a fun theme!

I was astonished by that Casio, amused by subexplorer's astronaut display, and regarding the colorful G-Shock I am wondering how many folks at this site have one (or have ordered one since seeing this!). Congratulations to the winners. Cazalea

Well played and congratulations...
