Three Legends: Patek Philippe X Breguet X McIntosh Labs
Jan 23, 2022,18:39 PM
This is a more intriguing timepiece than you may consider at first glance.
Patek Philippe's reference 3820 in rose gold is powered by their ultra-thin 18-jewel manual-wind calibre 177, which is a mere 1.77mm thick. As perhaps the thinnest timepiece Patek ever produced, the snap-on back 32mm case is ~5mm thick. Operating at 21,600 vph, a Gyromax balance, flat hairspring, KIF shock protection, and a power reserve of ~41 hours round out the main technicals. The polished rose gold case is classic in style and features very tasteful teardrop lugs.
So, what makes this specific 3820rg so very special? As the ?second? owner of this timepiece, about 15 years ago i sent a photo to David Jarred at Patek Philippe in NYC. He replied that a few special dials were made for the 3820. Most common is the standard silvered dial with highly stylized Breguet raised numerals, outer gold dot minute divisions, and the lovely Breguet 'Moon' hands.
But... This cream dial features different raised rose gold Breguet numbers with outer gold dot minute divisions and the same Moon hands. If anyone has added info, would love to hear about the history of this timepiece more than what PP's archives extract says.
As for McIntosh Laboratory.... ahhh, here's where real music history continues to be made! From the original Woodstock featuring Jimi Hendrix flamming guitar and many others, if you were there and enjoyed the music, then you were listening to McIntosh amplification.
Grateful Dead fans know that big wall of sound was powered by, you guessed it, McIntosh amplifiers.
McIntosh Laboratory's legendary blue meters have a BIG fan base, including my Muse / wife who, after seeing thousands of amplifiers costing hundreds of million$ in total all over the world, personally chose these for our home (mated to classic Dunlavy Signature loudspeakers if you must know). Seen here is Mc’s latest quad-balanced MC611 monoblock. Would tell you about the output power, yet suffice to say one of these per channel is more than sufficient... unless you're powering Woodstock... or a Dead concert.
